Title: What is the point?
Post by: altruismsuffers on October 03, 2006, 08:31:32 PM
So I have been censored twice without warning.  One issue was automatically locked, then my topic was totally deleted without reason.  What is the purpose of this?  Is my information not allowed?  Am I breaking unknown rules?  If the moderator is against me then what is the reason to stay?

Why should the moderator explain? Based on your past history, you wouldn't listen anyway.

I guess real "Americans" just do whatever the people in control say.  Even on lil message boards like this.  I think I listen just fine but thank you for the personal attack as expected.

So...My post that has been deleted TWICE without reason.  I would like to know if anyone has ever listened to WWW.STARVETHEBEAST.NET (//%22http://WWW.STARVETHEBEAST.NET%22)?  It is a great local broadcast thats on 24 hours.  He talks about local and national politics and its a great example of FREE SPEECH in the United States.  Just wanting to see what "you people" thought about it.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.  If they don't like the way you think, they put down Personal attack removed. Topic locked.

I then gave the full name of the mod that did it and they deleted that whole posting.  I can think of a million political quotes that could never make this board.  But that's OK, I know a few countries that are ran the same way. So now I don't give a political opinion because I don't want to hurt their feelings.  They may take their board and go home.

Well...let me see...they censored Alt and, unless I'm mistaken, they also censored his opponent, iplaw. If it's just a matter of them not liking your POV, explain why they would censor BOTH sides of an argument?

I think it's my fault.  I posted a funny picture on the thread and whoever the mod was that day didn't like it.

I'm feeling very envious and inadequate, I've only been censored and had my comments result in a topic being locked down twice. [:(]

It just doesn't make sense, does it?  I guess they must be using the [8] to figure out what stays.  Don't look now but I think they have put tape on you mouth to keep you quiet.....

Just a thought, but direct personal attacks are against the rules. I would guess "personal attack removed" means there was a pretty obvious rules violation, not a differing viewpoint on canadian soft lumber.

Maybe it would be better if everyone had to agree that if you enter the "Political" area, it's like entering a steel cage death match, everything is permissible, but if you can't take the heat then...go the general discussion threads.

<end clip>

No it wouldn't.

I've been on this forum long enough that I've seen some really ugly exchanges, and the moderators finally said "Enough" and cracked down. It was overdue. There's no sense in a few misanthropes, crazies or short fuses poisoning an entire board that certainly had proved useful and informative.

This ain't the Wild, Wild West, nor should it be. If you don't like it, you can start your own forum (like another member did, and is now dying on the vine because of a lack of traffic and a high crackpot ratio).

Sorry for even suggesting such a thing rwarn.  I'll remember to PM you next time before I post any forum suggestions so you can set me straight and pre-sanitize my comments.

The last person on this board I want to stick up for is Alt, but it was my fault the thread was shut down and I wanted him to know that.

The Political Arena/Thunderdome idea is not a bad one but wouldn't work as well as the concept sounds. That would mean you would almost have to have seperate R and PG rated politics forums. The shifting of gears, both in rules and emotionally, would be like a football player tending to butterflies during timeouts.

The name "Political Arena" is, in a small way, a nod to the idea.

I guess I don't see the problem. The site owners and moderators have decided that the TulsaNow forum isn't going to be an R-rated, free-for-all, attack zone. That is their right. If you want that stuff, there are no shortages of places on the net to engage in that kind of behavior. And if that's what you're looking for, then you're looking for cheap entertainment similar to pro wrestling or MTV's Jackass -- not to discuss matters regarding Tulsa.

So I don't see the problem if TulsaNow doesn't want to provide a place for bored juvenilles to have online food fights, or for nutjobs to post the same wacked-out conspiracy theories  completely unrelated to Tulsa for the 500th time (complete with free advertising for their propaganda movies). If you want to do that crap, go somewhere else, there are plenty of places to do it.

I just like to buy and use local resources, why would I want to support forums from out of state? [}:)][;)]

I agree. It's their forum and they can run it any way they want to. But I've also seen forums that have gone down in flames because the powers that be got too nit picky. I'm not saying that's what's happening here.

Personally, I like iplaw's suggestion of a free for all category. It wouldn't have to be the political category because there are people who like to (and can) discuss politics without getting nasty. The free for all could still have rules (no porn, racism, etc.) but the rules on personal attacks could be more relaxed. If a disclaimer were posted saying enter at your own risk, no one could complain about being offended there.

First off they are not "whacked out conspiracry theories".  Secondly Tulsatruth.org is a fast growing organization that is in Tulsa and is part of Tulsa.  So it is very related to ...TULSA.  Here is another something for you to think about.  No matter what story you except about 911 or any event like this, people conspired in order for it to be done.  When people conspire it is a CONSPIRACY.  And even though some may be theories, this means little.  Gravity is only a THEORY but I think that is widely accepted.  And it is not a THEORY when you have FACTS, PROOF and TESTIMONY to support your ideas.

We already have a 911 thread.  It's over here:
