Title: The Three BIG Proposals
Post by: SXSW on September 23, 2006, 01:46:53 PM
Here in the past few months Tulsa has seen three huge proposals announced for the city.  There's the 400+ room highrise Westin hotel across from the arena with underground parking, street level retail, and lofts/condos included in the plan.  Then there was the East End proposal to build a new 10,000 seat ballpark and add more residential and retail options to the under-utilized section of downtown by the Blue Dome district.  Their plan also calls for three new hotels.  And then the "Channels" proposal to dam up the Arkansas River creating a massive lake and then building three islands in the middle of it with highrise condos overlooking downtown.

Has there been any period in at least the past 20 years when so many BIG proposals were announced for Tulsa, especially ones that could completely transform our downtown and the river?  What are the likelihood of these proposals becoming reality and what does it mean for Tulsa?
