Title: Tulsa Has Changed...
Post by: art_cat on September 02, 2006, 09:24:59 PM
First of all, Thanks to T-TownMike for telling me Tulsa has changed! I don't know any of you people here, don't know your history with Tulsa, and so, I don't really know your perspectives on Tulsa. I'd think anyone to have "T-Town" as part of his S/N is purty darn pround of 'ol T-Town; good for you! I have some fond memories of having lived here, and I expected changes in Tulsa, just not the ones I've observed in the past year...

Fast Food Joints in vast numbers
DT Tulsa's celebration of asphalt parks
Obesity in vast numbers[I know it's a national problem]
An apparent apathy towards litter [I can't count how many times I've seen people throwing lit cigarettes and trash out of car windows! Tulsa used to pride itself of being one of America's prettiest cities.]
Some new trend of renaming streets, like "Cherry" [what's that about?]
Scores of BIG corporate giant stores [a lot of Tulsa businesses closed because of this!]
The continuation of the myth that the COT is going to revamp and reviatalize DT Tulsa! [I've heard that for over 35 years!]
TU's growth, not just in land aquizitions, but, OMG, the price!
Humongous Quick Trip stores have replaced smaller ones of just about any name.
What was once precious open spaces, now filled with more strip malls and shopping centers.

T-TownMike, I appreciate that you like how Tulsa has changed; you live here, apparently? While I don't have a bias against or for Tulsa, I hope that Tulsa will change in ways that benefit its citizens, not just developers, city leaders, and their associates. I have met a lot of cool people here, mostly artists and musicians, which are the original emphasis of my documentary: Tulsa's Arts and Music Scene. There's a lot of great cultural things happening in Tulsa, so, yay! [I wish the COT leaders would take note!] I hope you all will get a great revamped DT area, with your new ball park, more coffee shops, more bars, more restaurants, a new look on Boston Avenue, and a new and lasting prosperity in downtown! Oh, a more contemporary stance  on these silly OKlahoma alchohol laws, lol
