Title: Tulsa Wildlife - Songbirds
Post by: Steve on April 27, 2006, 05:35:53 PM
I have lived all of my 48+ years in Tulsa, the past 19 years at my present home in the area of 26th Street & Yale Ave.  My neighborhood has a multitude of mature, large trees and the usual wildlife of squirrels and birds.  Last year I even saw a fox over by the neighborhood pool.
We have the usual sparrows, finches, bluejays, robins, cardinals, doves, etc. but just this past week I saw a first, at least for me.  Two red-headed woodpeckers.  It really took me by surprise, for these are such striking, beautiful birds.  Ruby red heads, bright white bodies, and black on the fore and aft of the wings.  I don't recall ever seeing these around my house before this year.  I just had to stand there and stare at their beauty until they were gone from sight.
Has anyone else seen unusual wildlife around their homes?
