Title: One Small Penny. One Big SCAM.
Post by: danchangtulsa on April 25, 2006, 11:36:40 AM
The Top Three Third Penny SCAMS:

Item #2: $600,000 Police Handgun Replacement.  Someone is protecting their turf in the budget.  Move this back to General Fund or ask the Mayor to pay for it out of her personal petty cash.  Tulsa PD might as well be a charity case, complete with tux, the silent auction, and Gary Trannepohl.  What's next on the Third Penny list?  Bullets?

Item #26: $1.15 million Brady Village Implementation Plan.  Bike routes to segragate bicycles away from Denver and Archer.  Bicycles are considered traffic under both Tulsa Ordinance and Oklahoma State Statutes.  Bicycles fare best when treated and act as legitimate users of the roadway.   Roadway modifications specifically for bicycles are unneccessary and in some cases, unsafe.

$60 million street widening projects in South Tulsa.  Street widening increases traffic congestion.  It also kills Downtown/River Development by feeding traffic and retail sales tax into Bixby, Jenks, and Broken Arrow.  And, with the rising price of gas, we will be left with nothing more than 6 lane bicycle routes.  Subsidize mixed-use, transit-oriented developments instead.
