With me, it was the Forum. I was searching for info on things like "The American" and Vision 2025. And it seemed like through several searches on several projects, I kept coming across this forum. I didn't too much care for forums as a rule. I'd never found one that was all that informative. But this one had some info and discussion I wanted, so I stuck around. Plus, it was over-run by OKC folks bashing Tulsa, figured it would be a crime if I didn't help take care of that.
Since that time, I've learned a lot of things that I wasn't aware of before. I didn't know that preservation was a real issue. I didn't care about zoning codes, and walkability. I certainly didn't give a rip about our City Council. I thought it was a natural step to put a double-decker highway down Riverside. Seriously.
So I discovered Tulsa Now through the forum, and the experience has been one of learning.

the same. I was searching for updated pics of the tulsa area and this site came up several times. Now I am a member. It is interesting reading/seeing people's varying opinions on things despite the sometimes heated arguements.
For me, it was back when Paul Tay was getting into trouble for cruising around town on his bicycle toting a huge penis.
I did a search for "Paul Tay" and "Penis" and wound up here. When I reflect on the possibilities that could have come up, I consider myself fortunate.
I don't remember precisely how or when, but I think it was through this discussion forum when there was a proposal on the table for a new downtown park on a full city block near 9th and Cincinnati.
through word of mouth :)
I was reading the internet, page by page, alphabetically.
It was between TulsaNot and TulsaNox.
It was between my first and second years of law school when I was working downtown for a judge (was parking my old Explorer where center court on the BOK center is now). This was when the Tulsa World tore down that beautiful Bruce Goff building for a parking lot and it just seemed like such a crime. I wondered what was going on with downtown development, and not too many Google searches took me here. I more or less lurked for a few years, didn't check in all that much, but it's become such a valuable source of discussion and info that I check in multiple times per day--I just try to avoid negatively impacting my productivity.
Googling for tulsa forums... I needed somewhere to ask why the hell <insert idiodic thing happening to Tulsa> was happening at that moment in time :)
I honestly forget how I came across this place. Might have been looking for a Tulsa forum on google. Maybe it'll come back to me later.
I wanted to find a local political forum so I did a google search and found this site.
While researching properties a few years ago I googled Tulsa Neighborhoods & TulsaNow popped up.
I was googling before the move here - and Tulsa Now came back in a search for "Vision 2025" and Tulsa Now forum was returned on a search for "Tulsa forum."
And so I bookmarked the Tulsa Now home page, thinking that maybe someday I'd want a link or a forum or a now! type of dealio ...
Riveting story, no?
And for me, it was just sitting down at my laptop (like I'm doing right now), looking to make long-term plans about coming back to town, trying to find blogs and anything else pertaining to Tulsa, when i came by this purely by accident.
If I remember right, I blundered into this forum via a search function on Bloglines. I have on-going searches for a variety of subjects, and something turned up that lead me here.
If anyone is curious about how that works, just take a look at this:

The Skelly Building destruction was the event that prompted me to register
one single user name (per forum rules and regulations) and join the discussion. Before then I lurked from time to time, but there wasn't much activity on the forum back then. As I recall, neptune74137 suggested a Skelly Building protest, and that evolved into a series of public demonstrations. I met a number of other users in person on the corner of 4th and Boulder in the summer of 2004.
Actually, I knew a number of members of TulsaNow, and some of them invited me to join in 2004. Last time I tried to renew my membership was on September 21, 2005 at Harwelden when I handed the presiding officer a check for $20. That check has never cleared my account...
So I haven't been a member for a long time now, but I do attend public forums and presentations from time to time.
As I recall, I was "googling" for information on the history of my midtown Tulsa neighborhood and came upon links to the TulsaNow forums. That was back in 2004.
sgrizzle told me about it long ago - but I didn't come here until the Buried Belvedere thingy. The most up-to-date info was right here, and constantly being updated by people in the know.
It was great to have information before even the local news outlets knew.
I came her in 2004 via google. No idea what I was looking for. Then the Skelly Building thing happened and I never left.
Someone told me once that the "logout" button was rigged so I never tried it.
I was googling info on the former owner of Hallett Motor Speedway, Anatoly Arutunoff, and one link led me to here. Lurked for a while then decided to join. I find it interesting to see what's going on where I grew up, and have met some interesting people here.
I did a Google search on the DA's race between Tim Harris & Bret Swab.
You guys haven't had the good sense to kick me off ever since.

I came looking for my husband. As you can see by his post count, he pretty much lives here.
I got involved around the same time as the Skelly Building thing, but pregnancy and motherhood have limited my involvement. But I'm still here - obviously.
I came to squelch the highly exaggerated rumor of my death!
No, actually found it on a search engine while doing some market research for one of our builders.

I vote we keep you and trade sgrizzle away for a forum poster to be named later.
I was looking for the Conventions, Sports & Leisure feasability study from 2002-2003 before and after Vision2025 passed.... lurked for weeks/months.... still haven't read the thing, just the abridged Tulsa World summary.....
Eventually started posting on the TulsaNow forum more often... especially starting December 2005... with the news from Global Development Partners about building a soccer stadium in the "east village"... [:D]
