I recently read a short report in a newspaper about a rally in support of a freestanding sign depicting the 10 Commandments outside of an Oklahoma County Courthouse. The story was pretty much one sided in its portrayal of the issues. I was struck by the hateful tone of rhetoric coming from the gathering which included mostly people who identify themselves as Christian. One pastor said, and I'm paraphrasing, that if anyone that opposed the sign had shown up they would have been lynched.
It occurred to me that these people are anything but an embodiment of Christ.
How these people have been able to pass themselves off as Christians is a mystery to me. It is way past time for our elected officials to stop playing servant to these extremists.
