Title: Queer People and Genetic Engineering
Post by: Hometown on July 28, 2005, 08:38:58 PM
In the not too distant future we will have identified the gene that determines our sexuality.  It will literally be possible to screen fetuses for their sexual orientation.  Will this be the end of homosexuals?

After all, why subject a child to the rejection associated with being gay?  Why not make sure your child has every advantage possible, including a mainstream sexual orientation?

In an odd twist, gays may find that the Catholic Church is one of the few defenders of their right to be born.

On the other hand, do homosexuals contribute something valuable that would be lost in a world peopled by heterosexuals and no one else?

Should we stop nature from creating homosexuals?  Or should we institute protections that will insure queer people a place in the world of tomorrow?
