As parents, my husband & I often talk about why Tulsa does not have a children's museum, and what can be done about it. We have visited many, many cities that have them--even smaller cities in Oklahoma. In south florida, where we were recently, there were four within an hour drive. I know that there was one here that closed shortly after we moved here, and I never did visit it. So I don't know why it did not last. But I would think that Tulsa, being family & child oriented, would be able to support a children's museum.
Anyway, I was thinking about that today while I was with my kids at Veterans park, and it occurred to me that the Abundant Life building would be a perfect location for the museum. Its empty. It has plenty of parking. It is near two parks (Riverparks & Veterans), which anyone who has taken kids on field trip knows you need for the sack lunch. Its near some of Tulsa's early history (the Council Oak tree), and convenient to Riverside. If and when the Arena is finished, and we do start getting conventions, we need to have family activities near downtown.
I know money is always an issue, but surely there is some willing private donors, especially if it focused on specific Tulsa industries, like energy & telecommunications. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to take on such a project? If so, I would be willing to help out in any way.
