I am willing to bet our population growth levels have begun to decline as well. Unfortunately we may see population declines again and poverty increases. Not good. Meanwhile other cities and areas that have embraced pedestrian lively zoning and development are leading the way with population and income growth.
One other thing, I am willing to bet within about 10 years time, the price of oil will be pegged to the price of solar energy. It's already reaching parity and solar will continue to get both cheaper and more efficient. From now on each time the price of oil goes up a bit, the more solar will come online. Though in 10 years time solar will still be a much smaller portion of our energy consumption, there will be enough in the pipeline and the prices so competitive, the futures market will be at the point of not betting on higher oil, and more and more money will be flowing into solar (causing prices to fall even more and funding new more efficient technologies). I hope Oklahoma, and Tulsa sees this very real possibility and understands what it can do to our economy as it is.
