For years, I've been doing propane exchanges at Lowe's where you swap out your empty "blue rhino" tanks for (supposedly) full ones. Often, I feel like the empties weigh about the same as the full ones, so I finally got out the scale and did some research.
The tank shows that its tare weight is 18 lbs. I just weighed it "full" and it weighed 28 lbs. So I just bought 10 lbs of propane even though the label clearly shows 15 lbs net of propane.
However, even though this is annoying, it's still a decent price at about $21 for 10 lbs. I just called a UHaul place where they will refill your tank, and they were charging $4.79 per lb, which seems sort of crazy.
Does anyone out there get their propane tanks refilled, and if so, how much do you pay?

WalMart at 111th & Memorial. It's about $16 or so. I get two and the bill is less than $35, as of a few weeks ago.
I ran Natural Gas to my grill, best money I've ever spent. No more trips for propane and I never have to run to Home Depot during a cook out again.
Agree on the natural gas. Money well spent. In addition to the convenience, NG burns cleaner dryer than LPG. My "new" house here in Tulsa doesn't have NG piped outside, and that is on my short list to get fixed. I'm already tired of going back to propane.
But if you do need a fill up, I use(d) Synergy Gas up at 36th N and 169 for my camper LPG tanks, and it is reasonable, but I can't remember the price.
Just recently got a grill and traded in a blue rhino tank for $14.95 at the neighborhood market at 21st and Yale.
Forgot to actually weigh it before the first use, but I'd assume it was around 10 lbs rather than 15 at that cost.
No question that propane is getting way to expensive. Kerosene is the same way -I have a kerosene heater for emergencies like when the power goes out in winter and it's getting too expensive to run. Kerosene is around $10.00 a gallon and it used to be real cheap a few years ago. Much of that increase is due to federal regulations and the EPA along with the Obama administration that is anti- oil, gas and coal. I have no propane grill but I do know a full tank of propane that is used on fork lifts weighs around 75 pounds.
I have never met such a person with untrue and silly reasons to act stupid as the last poster.
The price of propane has barely changed over the last ten years. It is virually the same as it was when Obama took over as President.

If you are buying kerosene at Lowe's or Home Depot in 1/2 gal to 5 gal containers, that's why it is so expensive per gallon. It has nothing to do with Obama's policies on energy. It's called not being an educated consumer.
Jet A at U.S. Aviation at the Tulsa International Airport is selling for $3.52/gallon. Whether or not they will let you fill a Jerry can with it or not is another issue. There's also some debate as to whether or not the additives in jet fuel are okay to burn in lanterns or heaters.
National price sampling on kerosene shows it is in the $2 to $2.50 range.

RM is that chart for residential delivered as in to your house delivered? I was looking for some type of site last night similar to Gas Buddy but for propane, and all I could find in was residential delivered, and the prices for that in this area are all over the place, and really not apllicable for grill bottles. I know the highest I've seen in the last couple of years was $3.25/gal at a local gas station in 2012 and the price now is $1.95/gal at the same place.

Thanks, forgot about checking UHaul's site. $2.59/gal near hear. Interested to what other dealers have it for while running errands today.

Thanks for the info. I called a UHaul and they must have not understood bc they said $4.79 per pound, which is a lot different than per gallon!
Propane weighs about 4.25 pounds per gallon.....

There was a run up in 2014 in Feb for a few weeks - I had been filling a 30lb tank for $22, then when the fake shortage occurred, it was $45 for a 30lb tank for a little while. Coincided with a heating issue in an RV I stay in from time to time - normally, would get about 4 to 5 days at 20 degrees F outside temps, but was using one tank a day for about a week. It's back to $23 now.

Forklifts - the most common tank is a 33.5 lb tank and full weighs almost 60 lbs. (On the forklifts I have driven the most...)
And no, the price has not run up under Obama - it has actually gone down just a little for any quantity more than the 20 lb grill tanks. Just like gasoline costs so much more under Obama....oh, wait....what?
