Quote"The idea all along was housing, a sort of special housing we hope that appeals to artistic types, musicians and artists."
Tom Wallace and his wife purchased the building from Tulsa Public Schools.
They're now converting it into twenty-five apartments.
"Hopefully we'll have more of a community atmosphere here rather than just individuals in apartments who don't know each other," said Wallace.
The planned studios range in size from economical to spacious, all retaining the original character of the building.
More affordable housing near downtown, doesn't sound too bad really. What's your opinion as a neighbor?
Tom Wallace is a genius. He is also committed to preserving the historic building.
I am excited for the project knowing he is involved.
That is fantastic!!
A single building version of what I would like to do in a "cottage community"!! Brilliant!!
There has been some activity at the school the last few days. Looks like they are getting started.

Reminds me of a building in Chicago that was called "Artist-in-Residence" that included rehearsal spaces, art spaces, photography, etc. -- old fire codes, so you could practice in your apartment and the next door neighbors wouldn't complain. ;D
I wouldn't mind renting out studio space if some of the classrooms are made available for that kind of stuff...
I hope the School of Visual & Performing Arts gets up and running at Roosevelt soon.... http://okarts.us/
