Title: Obama Celebrates 160th Round of Golf

Totaling 800 hours, or 20 work weeks, or 8.3% of his total working time in office, President Obama completed his 160th round of presidential golf this week.  With entourage, perimeter security, transportation, and in many cases the services of Airforce One, the total cost of golf during his administration reaches in the tens of millions of dollars if not more, with some single trips such as last years trip to play with Tiger costing upwards of a million dollars in itself.

In honor, Time Magazine is providing a fantastic infographic.

But of course there is nothing wrong with this because Bush. . .

Every President has some down time. Does this bother you because you hate golf? Did you get scarred by someone touching your putter when you were young?

It's just a bit odd that the president would throw such a fit about things like the sequester, or close off the White House to the public, or any number of other threats and measures, yet still spend millions every month on his own personal recreation.  If you combine his golf with his vacation time, President Obama has only been in office for a little over 4 years.  :(

This is just plain silly. You mean he plays golf once every 11.2 days? Once every 1.6 weeks since he has been in office or ~3 times a month?

How much time do you spend whacking off to negative stories about Obama? I bet more than 800 hours.

Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner plays over 100 rounds of golf per year. That is almost four times as often as President Obama.

I love this campaign commercial...

I suppose it is of no concern.  Presidents are entitled to personal hobbies.  His just costs us millions and millions of dollars.  ;D

He's really doing a great job!

Do you have any idea how ridiculous you are being right now? Stop and go back to predicting stock market crashes will you? You were better at that.

I think this will provide a great footnote to his legacy.  A island of proficiency in a sea of ineptitude.

Would it be better if he just went to Texas to clear brush?

When George W Bush was President, he took 1020 days of vacation, the most of any President ever. He averaged 18 weeks of vacation per year.

No.  Would probably tear up his mompants.

According to Al Sharpton President Barack Obama "has taken 92 days of vacation since he was sworn in," compared to 367 for President George W. Bush at the same point in his presidency. But. . . add in golf at 4hr's a round and you get a grand total of 412.

By the end of both terms Bush took 879 vacation days, which included 77 total trips to his Crawford, Tex., ranch. Nine of those trips were taken in his first year as president according to the Washington post.

But again, who cares.  Just because Bush liked to take care of his ranch and cattle should't detract from President Obama enjoying the fine game of golf at the best courses in the world on the tax payer's dime.

Great leaders need diversions.  Nero loved to fiddle.

You're starting to sound as if you don't like the president, Gas. He also takes time to watch television and read books.

Our former president read books too, and again, it took time away from critical tasks like bombing civilians and depriving people of their rights:

You have lost it gaspar.

You can't possibly be this dense. Both Presidents spent millions if not billions on travel. Laura Bush went to Africa five times and took her daughters on a safari.

Why was that taxpayer expense OK and Obama's golf not OK?

Because you have lost grasp of reality?

Gasp, I really, really want to see your math on any of this.

For the record, Obama has been president for 3 weeks short of 5 years.

Even assuming all of Obama's 160 rounds of golf were played during the work day and never on the weekends and that no work was ever done during any golf outing and that Obama only works a standard 40 hour work week, all of which is ridiculous, how in the he!l do 160 instances of roughly 4 hour golf equal 320 work day equivalents?

A second grader can do the word problem that 160 rounds of golf at four hours each equals 80 eight hour days, not 320. You are off just a little bit, a rounding error maybe?

Gasp, you again gets an "F" on elementary school level math. I certainly hope your work does not involve numbers.

My educated guess would be that all presidents work 100+ hour work weeks, on vacation or not, and many and probably most of his rounds of golf involved work. But even so, the 640 total hours of golf would represent only about 2.5% of Obama's ~2500 work hours. And that's assuming that none of the golf happened on "personal" time.

Depends on whether or not he visits the 19th hole after each round and gets completely smootfaced.

Average game is 4-6 hours so I assumed 5, because after all he is the president, and probably doesn't rush through, so that's 800 hours.  He is also typically late for every press conference, and so I would assume that carries over into his private life and game too.

He starts his morning briefing later then the 6am schedule of his predecessors, and of course we know that he skips nearly half of these in leu of a PDF copy of the notes, so his work day is far smaller than his predecessors.

As for not playing during the week, he actually plays quite a bit during the week if you check out his schedule.  In fact on the day of the crisis in Syria, he went to the morning briefing and then hit the course at Andrews for 27 holes with ESPN TV personalities Tony Kornheiser and Mike Willbon, both experts in foreign policy I'm sure.

Durring the BP oil spill (which he compared to 9/11) he played golf three times, and went on vacation.

When the Philippines was hit by Typhoon Haiyan killing over 6,000, we found out that the president's "situation room" was hole #3 at the Grand Oaks where he was coordinating with NBA star (and foreign aid consultant) Alonzo Mourning.

In fact it seems that every time there is an important issue, we locate him on the golf course.  Not that there is anything wrong with that.  Some people like the desk, and some do not.

Perhaps RM is correct and I have lost it. Lets just chalk it up to that.  :D  I suppose I am more entertained by the Obamapoligists who, if this was any other president, would be livid that he take such liberties while at the same time producing such disappointing results.  Of course they are in the minority and his recent approval ratings are evidence that there are indeed a decreasing number of folks willing to ignore accountability and lay fanatical praise on irresponsibility.

Perhaps the most we can wish for is that he include more important foreign dignitaries on his golf outings so that we can more easily write them off as a "business expense." I hear Kim Jung Un is looking for a friend.

Your only thought on your ridiculous math is that I should use 5 hours per round?  Even if you assume 5 hours per round (you were the one that cited 4, by the way) your math is still complete crap.

I'm not even here to defend Obama, I'm just attacking your completely crap information.  Sarah Palin has better thought out arguments than you.

Nice fast step back from data into anecdotal information (uncited of course). That at least shows that you know you are full of crap because you won't even try to defend your data.

Your constant emoticons are always a nice touch though.   ;D >:( :o :-[ :P :'( :) They don't in any way make you look like a 13 year old girl, not at all.

You guys are missing the point. Golf is an evil pastime that is addictive and a time waster. It is practiced by cult like groups that spend inordinate amounts of money on golfing equipment and use clandestine clubs that spread their evil to our young and are avoiding taxes through non profit status.

We need to outlaw golf before it sucks the life out of us all.

It has simply ruined many a politician.

Eisenhower played 800.  WILSON 1000.  so what?

Obama plays as much as 10 round when in Hawaii.  He smoozes with officials, donors, the press, and politicians.  He clears his mind.  Who cares?

160 rounds in 5 years.  160 rounds in 250 or so weeks.  If that's his thing... who cares?

Can you imagine a good cycling day less than once per week?  Whatever you passion, less than one time per week?  That's not that much.

Except when I hop on my bike, taxpayers aren't out tens of thousands of dollars or a million or so depending on the venue.

Here's the rub:

I don't fault the Grand Poobah of the land for having hobbies considering the stress of his chosen profession.  But, when the economy is in the worst shape since the Great Depression, I would craft a public image as a sympathetic and frugal leader.  He's seemed totally out of touch with the reality of the economy for everyone else since he took office with lavish vacations and all the trappings of wealth and leadership.

Do you remember FDR doing all these golf outings during the depression?  Of course not, polio is a grumble!   :o :o

Conan, if you were POTUS it would cost tax payers millions to go out and ride.  Huge stretches would have to be about down and secured.  Like when Clinton/Bush went jogging... but on a grander scale.  The perks of being the most powerful man in the world I guess.

The guy goes golfing an average of once every other week.  Half of those are either while on vacation or with press, politicians, or other figures.  If 2 hours a week keeps the president sane AND serves sometimes as a social function with peers - great.

Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II spent more time on vacation than Obama (Carter was amazingly stingy and no mention of Clinton in the articles I pulled for some reason).  And when Bush was in office the left whined about the vacationer in chief spending 70 days a year at his Texas ranch.  The same people defending Bush (not pointing specific fingers, but in general) are pull I g up the same story against Obama.

Which is why I hate the two party system.

Not necessarily unless I wanted to road ride or participate in large organized rides or races then you have a security nightmare. Bush II is an avid mountain biker.  He regularly shows up at the public MTB areas in Dallas.  I believe he also rode at his ranch when he was POTUS which wouldn't involve a huge security detail, at least for the ride itself.

When you are POTUS there's really no such thing as a vacation, you are on call 24/7 and certainly there should be some perks to work off stress.  Some presidents seem to take more advantage of that than others.

The one thing I did admire about Carter was his austere ways.

Well look who peeked out from under Obama's...oh never mind. Someone that apparently cannot understand hypocrisy, or a damned sense of what it means to be "in touch"--spending millions of tax dollars on himself in Hawaii--then b!tching about how republicans are hurting the poor.

Interesting contrast. Evil President Bush had a policy to stay in in town during Christmas so that the hundreds of staffers, secret service, and support personnel could be with their families.  In most cases they would go up to the secure retreat in Maryland to be "unseen" so that members of the press and their support would be free from following their movements around D.C. or the White House.  This also took a huge burden off of the D.C. police who provide daily motorcade support.

The Bushes would then take their family vacation the day after Christmas. Even then, Bush didn't want to cause the press that followed him hardship during this special time of year, so he had a program that allowed press family members could pay $100 for the round-trip on the official white house press aircraft, and many took advantage of this.

I wonder how much it costs the press to spend Christmas in Waikiki?

wonder why you guys on the right get so up in arms about him vacationing in Hawaii.

He was born there....oh wait, maybe he wasn't.   ::)

Never heard you complain about Bush's vacations to Texas.  You sure had plenty of opportunities to do so with him.

Or papa and his numerous outings to Kennebunkport.

I guess it's something for you to complain about.

It certainly was thoughtful of our former president to schedule his vacation to lessen the impact on the families of his security detail and the press corps. Too bad he didn't extend that same consideration to the families impacted by deaths and injuries in two wars initiated on lies. He sure was a swell guy.

If you have something to the contrary, post it, although it is hardly THAT important. I will continue to laugh at the hypocrisy of ol Barry blasting away at the thoughtlessness of some about the poor while he and Moochelle party it up in Hawaii. I mean, I know that is okay with you, but it's still laughably hypocritical.

So if a single member of the press asks a single question, you think it is your duty to post about it?

Your sense of responsibility just dwarfs reality.

Tell me again why you are obsessed with this first lady? Did you track the press questions of other wives of presidents? Were you following Nancy Reagan when she was getting political advice from an astrologer?

You constantly attack "news sources" that others cite on this forum. If you ever do it again, it will prove you to be a hypocrite.

From your "source" page on wikipedia..."the editorial stance of which broadly reflects that of the Daily Mail, being to the right wing of mainstream British politics and typically supporting the UK Conservative Party.[8] MailOnline articles tend to be dominated by pictures rather than long-form journalism.[2] A major component of the website is its entertainment news, often featuring celebrities such as Kim Kardashian[9] or members of the British Royal Family such as the Duchess of Cambridge.[10] It is estimated that 25% of the traffic received by the website is purely to access the entertainment and gossip stories.[11]

The reporter who wrote this story...the story he wrote three days before this was how Amazon is assembling an army of robots.

First you quote a blogger about this "story" then to backup your obsession with the personal life of Michelle Obama, you posted that.

You need forget her. She doesn't know you exist.

Again...you getting upset because she is in the media is a little weird. Why do you care if she is popular? What difference does it make if the media does a story about her turning 50 or Brad Pitt turning 50 (which got much more coverage)? It is a puff piece by media outlets to talk about something else than politics or weather.

I have been to the First ladies exhibit at the Smithsonian in D.C. and it is fascinating. Did you know that Dolly Madison was the first lady for her husband and for his best friend Thomas Jefferson (who was a widower).

Somehow, I don't think you care about the others, just the wife of President Barack Obama.
