Title: Why do people hate Conservative values? Blame Family Guy!

Insane!  You can't make this up.

Thanks for making me laugh, Mr. Whittle.

So because I watched Russel Crowe in "Captain and Commander" does that mean I'll suddenly become Australian? And since some of my favorite books are Forrester's "Hornblower" series, does that mean I'll run off to join the Royal Navy and sink some Spanish and French warships?

Inquiring minds want to know...and I read both the National Inquirer and sadly defunct Weekly World News. Who knows what effect they had.

Yes

You are entirely too easily impressed.

Don't watch Family Guy (and have no clue as to how the theme song goes), but do watch all the Star Treks, love watching British Comedies, and am also now watching Merlin.... guess that means I am being primed to be a wizard from outer space with a quick wit.  Can't really say how that would inform my voting tendencies.  Interesting that 2 out of the 3 current shows I am watching are not even made in the US, perhaps that guy would like to ban shows made in other countries if they don't show enough "US conservative" positive bias?  Sounds kinda like something you might hear out of China.

So basically you're Dr Who?

(OK, not really a wizard, but close enough...)

In all seriousness though,  every time I hear one of these types criticize a show like Family Guy or The Simpsons or South Park,  I wonder if they have ever sat down and watched several episodes of them.  (Admittedly, when I do decide I need some TV time I go for something that I don't have to think about too much.) Yes they are profane, even close to obscene sometimes, and they make fun of and question just about every social norm there is.  But in virtually every episode the "good guys" win, and some broader social contract is actually enforced rather than debunked.   Of the three, Family Guy is (IMHO) the most crudely written and least "deep".  But even there, if you actually pay attention, almost every episode has a point to make.

I think it is even more fundamental - they don't try to guide society - they reflect society, holding up a mirror for us to see ourselves.  I used to think the Simpsons was the master of that, but the more Family Guy I see, the more I think it is closer to the real societal indicator.  And South Park is just plain fun!
