We are buying some beer for a charity event we are hosting tomorrow and I was wondering if you all had some input(sarcastically asks) on who has the best beer selection for the best value (not cheapest, but reasonable for the value).

Three places I go:
Ranch Acres (31st/Harvard)
Park Hill (51st/Lewis)
Collins Midtown (17th/Yale..in front of the Target)
Thanks! Will go hit up Collins this evening!

Harvard Liquor (at 11th & Harvard) had a few hard-to-find beers last time I went in.
The BierGarten in Jenks probably has the best selection. He claims to have every beer available in Oklahoma. He seems reasonably priced but not the cheapest.

Selection won't be that of Collins or Ranch Acres, but Burton's on Sheridan is usually as cheap as anybody in town.

Interesting that I live about an equal distance from Ranch Acres and Collins. Certainly, I couldn't have bought a house in close proximity to the two best beer selections in Tulsa on purpose. ;D
B&B Liquor. 69th and Mingo, 98th and Memorial and 71st and Elm in Broken Arrow are huge stores with a wide selection of Beer at fantastic prices. Aspen Liquor at 91st and 145th E Av in B.A. also deserves honorable mention.

They are both about equal distance for me too, 11.6 & 12.0 respectively. BierGarten in Jenks is only 6.7 mi. The Crossing and Parkhill South near 101st and Memorial both have good selections and are only about 1.7 mi.
I cannot claim any intentional locating though since non of those places were here in 1971.
;D

Collins is two minutes drive for me from work; not much more from home. I've almost switched to them exclusively as they're a little more 'open' as far as size. Both staffs know their beers, but Ranch Acres I think wins by a nose in that department (staff knowledge).
I did get the skinny from Collins on Eric's newest offerings upcoming.
He has a Dunkel coming out pretty soon.
His second in the three beer line he calls 'El Gringo Loco'...the first of which was El Cucuy, will be out soon as well.
As I guessed, he named it 'El Chupacabra'. ;D

I've been to Collins a couple of times. They definitely have a good selection. I don't think I've been to Ranch Acres.
Crossing Wine & Spirits has a good selection and some knowledgeable beer guys. I've been going there for years.

The BierGarten in Jenks is co-owed by a beer geek.

Went to Collins and have to say, was very impressed! Had some beers I hadn't seen offered in Oklahoma stores in general and had some decent prices, they were also very helpful and friendly and gave case discounts without me even asking, plus helped me load them up in the vehicle. +1 for Collins in my book!
Until proven otherwise, I'm going on the assumption that all Oklahoma stores except Biergarten support the current mafia-like system where the game is rigged and the consumer is screwed.

My guess is that most of them wouldn't want the expense of putting in refrigeration for beer.

Or maybe the Guinness lovers have the infection?....
It's called a stout but it tastes nothing like a stout. Try an Old Rasputin and a Guinness side by side. It's like eating a steak then a leaf of lettuce.

Yep, an Imperial Stout will be a lot bolder than a regular stout.
I tried. Really I did. But I just couldn't get the hang of the taste and why every one thought it was a right of Beer passage to drink it.
I even bought a six of the cans that dropped a co2 cartridge in it to make it taste like draft beer. What a crock that was. Took me two weeks to get through the rest of the beers. And I gave two of them away.
But Guinness is a great base for an Irish car bomb!

Bingo. Comparing a regulor Stout and an Imperial Stout is like comparing a Pale Ale to an IPA - it all beer, but with very different flavor profiles.

I work for a beer distributor who also does wine/spirits. I sent you a PM. If you have any questions, let me know.

Cellar temperature (approx 50 deg F) is about right for many good beers. In this part of the world in the summer, that is refrigerated. Ice cold is too cold. The flavors and aromas are trapped. In the case of MillerCoorsBud light, it doesn't matter.

OK, bad comparison. But it's still a poor, poor stout. That jet black color just doesn't reconcile with the complete lack of flavor.
If it's still $3 at Crystal Pistol, I'd drink it there. But it's not worth much more than that.
I think the Bros review on Beeradvocate sums it up.
QuoteMouthfeel: Same nitro mouth feel but very, very thin and watery.
Drinkability: This beer has been dumbed down so much it is like drinking water. There are far better stouts than this.

Crystal Pistol is no more. It is now The Yeti. I did enjoy the $3 Guinness' there before shows at the Cain's. I have no idea if the Yeti offers them for $3.

i'm not sure about the ownership. the place has been expanded since it changed names, though.
Just FYI, Marshall's Revival Red Ale is in at Ranch Acres.
Anyone attending tonight? https://www.facebook.com/events/143030012529819
Marshall Brewing Company will officially release their spring seasonal Revival Red Ale at Bar 46, 107 N. Boulder, Tulsa, OK, March 1st, 2013 at 5:00PM. The release will include, a special cask-conditioned version of Revival Red Ale, sampler flights, as well as brewmaster Eric Marshall and a ceremonial tapping of the first keg of Revival Red Ale. Also present will be the Lone Wolf Bahn Mi food truck offering their delicious menu featuring bahn mi and kimchi french fries. The event is open to the public.
So what is the best place for draft beer?
And don't say McNellie's. Their selection is too much euro-crap and it doesn't change enough. It also doesn't really seem well thought out in terms of diversity of styles.
Bar 46 and R Bar both have solid selections that seem to change. But I wish they'd publicize their current selections more. Other contenders?

There simply aren't that many places with huge draft capacity around Tulsa. One thing I'm noticing though is that old staples like Bud, Miller, & Coors are being replaced with legit micros or at least smaller brewers like Adams or Boulevard.
I did stop in at a place after a long gravel ride out in Stillwater a couple of weeks ago. Can't remember the name but it's right in between The District Bike Shop and Louie's on Main St.
I know McNellie's is tops as far as quantity. This month's beer list has six new American drafts listed.
One of them (Abita Purple Haze) is barely considered craft. Another (Moose Drool) doesn't really seem new because it's always on tap there. The two Green Flash additions are nice, but they're new to Oklahoma in the past month. So those aren't representative of McNellie's usual monthly draft changes.
But to me, a place with 15 taps of American craft beer where 12 of them are new every month is preferrable.
OK. I haven't asked a dumb question in quite a while so here goes.
When out at a restaurant or bar. I puposely would order a beer that I know is not available at the grocery store in hopes that it is imported from out of state and maybe a higher alcohol content.
Was I just dreaming and wasting my time? I say was. Because come the second week of May it will be one year of sobriety. It's not a forced thing. Just something I have done for myself.
Sobriety is for quitters. ;)
When I was younger, the alcohol content of beer was more important. If I had to go to Bartlesville on business, I'd finish the day running by a liquor store in Caney or take my lunch break to do that to get higher point domestic brands.
At some point I got turned on to microbrews when I was doing a lot of work in Colorado in the late 1990s. Now I look for something I'm familiar with or a specific type of beer I like (i.e. IPA or stout), or something I've not tried yet in one of the varieties I like. Other than the occasional yen for a Coors yellow belly, it's rare I buy a big three domestic product.
Nothing wrong with the Banquet Beer. I keep at least six cans in my beer fridge at all times.

Funny it used to be something like Fat Tire is now that people would go out of their way to get it, hence the hilarious premise behind Smokey & The Bandit.

To this day I have still never had a strong Coors from another State. And I like Coors. Iv'e had plenty of Bud but everytime that I am out of state or ask a friend to bring some back. I either forget to buy it or they bring back something else and tell me the store they stopped at didn't stock it.
A tall cold strong Coors might just snap me out of this self imposed sobriety that I am involved in.

We ate at The Alley last night. 10 draughts, Coors Banquet is the only one of the big three represented, rest are seasonal Marshalls (Big Jamoke still in the house), Guinness, a couple of Coop (F-5 IPA and I think a farmer ale), Dead Guy Ale, Palm Belgian Ale, they keep a tap for rotating Boulevard Smokestack beers, and I don't remember the rest off the top of my head. Great selection of bottled imports and micros as well.
Chef Mitch says there is a new spring food menu rolling out mid-month.
This place attracts a diverse crowd. There was even a well known music icon eating there last night.
