Ha! I thought they were bringing a great music festival to Guthrie Green. I guess my critical reading skills have gone to pot!
This is huge for Oklahoma. I'm going to be nervous until I get my tickets!

I think "they" are... July 19 and 20 is what I'm hearing. Good time for 50,000 to mill around on the streets. I would prefer May and October but concert promoters think we aren't turning into desert.

Hope it's not anything like it's been mid-July the last two years. The pavement is still 100+ degrees at 10pm.
if anyone is interested, i made a spotify playlist of the bands that are playing in guthrie:

You're thinking of Sanford, Mumford is where Axel Foley went to school in Detroit.
Hotels are sold out in Guthrie. Edmond is your best bet if you're planning on going.
Maybe this is the opportunity to re-establish Guthrie as the state capital.
What's to lose? Our present capital is said to be coming apart at the seams and the recognized leadership is a cold mess.
Apparently there's no shortage of scammers out there looking to make a buck off the unsuspecting:
QuoteThe City of Guthrie, Mumford & Sons, Jam Productions and DCF Concerts today sent an alert to media outlets to help warn fans against fraudulent ticket sales for the upcoming Gentlemen of the Road Festival.
The event is Sept. 6-7 in Guthrie. The warning reads:
We are receiving many calls about websites that are offering festival tickets at this time to unsuspecting and excited patrons. There are no tickets to this festival, no VIP packages, no "seats" available.
All tickets are being sold beginning tomorrow (Friday) at 11 a.am. CST through gentlemenoftheroad.com. Mumford & Sons are a very specific artist to their fans with no gimmicks, no "specials," no "pre-sales" or seats or anything of this nature.
We want to alert the public in as many ways possible that unless they are going through the official website beginning at 11 a.m. tomorrow 2/8 there is not a way to procure a festival ticket or camping pass.
+++
Tickets are $109 (including fees) and go on sale 11 a.m. Friday at gentlemenoftheroad.com. Camping is available for $40 per person per day.
The two-day celebration includes a Friday night concert and a festival all day on Saturday, Sept. 6-7, including music from Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, The Alabama Shakes, The Vaccines, Bear's Den, Half Moon Run, Willy Mason, Those Darlins and more.
Estimates of this tour last year put the economic impact of a concert in Bristol, Tenn., at more than $4.2 million. Organizers expect a similar impact for Guthrie and Logan County. Cottonwood Flats in Guthrie will host the family-friendly event, expected to bring in 25,000 or more attendees to the area.

My daughter is excited her fiancé got tickets for the two of them.
And yes, MC and I are "who is...?" just like you and yours.

We only knew who they were from seeing them on SNL. DH described them perfectly with "listening to their music is like riding a horse." (trot, gallop, trot, gallop)
Oh thank Gawd I'm not alone in the Who is M&S?
Like most everyone. I love music. So when there is so much excitement about a upcoming event, and one that sells out so quickly. I'm thinking. What rock have I been hiding under and what am I missing?
So I went to youtube and looked up all the music videos they have. There are quite a few. Well with this many music videos there has to be a hit song that I have heard......Not a one.
And I'm sorry. I just don't get all the big hoopty over their style of music. But hey, to this day I don't understand all the Jimmy Buffet parrot heads out there selling out concerts for a two hit wonder
Did I hear correctly they won album of the year at the Grammy's last night?

Yep and they made a big stink about some guy name Jack White. A dude that obviously only comes out at night. He must be a huge hit on 102.1 The Edge.
I won't bother searching his videos. Not from what I heard last night.
Jack White is the former lead singer of The White Stripes. He has many, many side projects and is considered one of the best musicians (guitarists) of his generation. You should check out "It Might Get Loud." It is a documentary with White, The Edge & Jimmy Page. Fantastic. Last I checked it was on Netflix Instant.
I think he was being sarcastic.
Competition for artistic talent awards is a joke. There is no reason for this other than creating demand to sell more copies. It's an industry feed sack. Art should be non-competitive. Pay little attention to these events...but I must admit, I did tune into the live stream to watch John Fullbright's performance. I could care less if he had won. The fact he got nominated was enough recognition and well deserved for this artist from Guthrie.

I just checked Netflix. It's only available on DVD mailing. I may criticize performers after I first hear something from them. But one thing I will do. Is take advice from people who know about the artist and recommend that I watch or hear something from them. So thanks for telling me that. And I will look and see if I can find it another way.
I won't be going but to everyone who is going it should be a great show! All The best! :D

I enjoy his music. I don't have the ability to go on a long detail about him and his talents but out of many things he's worked on I rarely find any of it lacking.
If you listened to 104.5, 97.5, or 106.9 from 1999 to 2010, you heard his work in the White Stripes.
He did a duet with Loretta Lynn.
He was a strong supporting character on Cold Mountain.
His work with other musicians made modern music better.

John Fullbright is from Okemah (Bearden to be more specific).
