Title: Firewood vendors
Post by: Markk on January 23, 2013, 03:41:32 PM
Can I get some recommendations on where to buy good seasoned firewood?  My normal seller is not returning my calls.

It's Rauch Brothers, and they are my uncles.   ;D

And no, they aren't around any more, although admittedly I don't stay in touch with them as much.  So I may be incorrect.

I just took loads of branchs and tons of logs to the city green waste dump on 56th street last month. I'd have been happy to give the logs away free  since I have no fireplace... I have been cutting trees down and trimming back branchs on the  trees in my yard...  I have two other trees that I'd like to take down but those trees are near a power line so I don't want to risk it.-  I dunno what kind of logs they are. I guess I can have the power company take the lines down just until I get the tree down, then they can re-connect the lines once the tree is down on the ground- I dunno what they would charge for doing that. Once the tree is on the ground I can hack it up into small logs.

OK, but the green wood would become seasoned fire wood  for future use if it's let to sit. I had alot of logs, and many branchs that I took to the dump. Branchs can be good for starting a fire...  BTW I believe that green waste dump on 56th street gives away  free large tree stumps and big logs, you can bring along a log splitter and split your logs there, they stack all that stuff on the west side of the site. The smaller green waste they grind up for mulsh.

QuoteMr. Madison, what you've just said ... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

Kraut hates trees................if it was up to him, we would live in a vast waste land where the temperature would dip to 80-85 at night and reach 100-110 during the day.

I don't hate trees- I do  not like trees near a house, trees do alot of damage to homes, to underground sewer lines and to driveways and pavement... In ice and wind storms the trees can tumble down on your house crushing it... In a major storm falling trees block roadways and slow the progress of emergency rescue crews. The snowstorm in New England shows what happens when trees come down 650,000 residents lost power from trees taking out power lines. Trees belong in a forest or park. Trees near a home need to be trimmed back  and kept from growing out of control. Rescue operations were hampered big time in Joplin, MO. back in the 2011 tornado  due to downed trees all over the city. Cities have regulations for just about everything except for trees, they can grow out of control, or so it seems.

It's preferential: I think these trees are looking for revenge.

RM, that was essentially a copy and paste of a post that Cabbage made a couple of years ago.

"First you must find... another shrubbery! Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here, beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle. ("A path! A path!") Then, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forrest... with... a herring!"

Look who wrote the article- what do you expect them to say? Trees destroy home sewer lines, walkways, driveways and roofs. The problem is when a home is new or in a new subdivision people plant tiny trees, then forget about them. In time the trees are never trimmed back and allowed to grow wild, the people move to another home and the new residents who move into the home don't do nothing about the trees. Soon there is a massive tree with huge branchs hanging over the house just waiting for ice storm or wind storm to bring it down. I see homes around Tulsa with  huge massive trees 5 or 10 feet from the house. WoW! Google "tree-home damage"

http://www.nachi.org/tree-dangers.htm    BTW, Google has some stunning photo's of trees that have crushed homes, many trees just get up-rooted in storms and can slice right thru a home like a knife.

Thank goodness you alerted us to the dangers of trees. What were we thinking?

I also have heard that kids play with matches and lighters. I need to get them away from my house right away. Did you know that sometimes women shoot their husbands? No sense having her around any more. Why I could be in real danger.

You are so wise.

As long as I got no big trees around my house- if you want a huge tree near your home more power to ya! The shade from the trees block out alot of sunshine too.
