On KMOD's Facebook page they are saying that Phil Stone has died.

Just when you thought they were poised to take a big step after leaving Clear Channel.
Sad doesnt describe it.  He did the Roy D. Mercer voice, unless Im mistaken.

You're mistaken.  Brent does the voice.

I literally grew up listening to him.  I believe he came to KMOD around '79 or '80 and before it was Phil & Brent it was Phil & Jeanne Summers (aka Jeanne Triplehorn).  I'm rarely in shock but this one really smacked me upside the head.

Something I read online, posted by a CC employee leads me to believe that he had been sick. It was something to the effect that he didn't think it would happen "this quick".  :'(

Roy D Mercer
Thanks again to all that have posted here about the loss of my partner Phil Stone. Roy D will live on but with a heart heavier than a double wide loaded with Carnival Fat Ladies.

Phil's the guy you heard laughing in the background and was the voice of Xerox the Myna bird. He was the genius editor of all my calls and my partner in crime.

I'll surface like a bad rash after the first of the year in some form or fashion. Stay tuned and in the meantime say a prayer for Phil and his Family. The Mercer family will always remember him as a great man and cheerleader for my goofiness.

RIP, pardner. You were the Ricky to my Lucy, the Dale to my Roy, the Tonto to my Lone Ranger. Without a straight man, the comic is just gravy with no mashed taters. Tell the big guy upstairs I'll be along later to whup his donkey.

Well IMO. KMOD tried to do a tribute show for Phil and Brent this morning. And the new crew was doing a love fest for the former morning Zoo. Brent Douglas called in and had some nice things to reflect on. And IMO sounded a little jaded about the whole Radio business in general.
He talked about hating the time that they were semi forced to do the late night Fox 23 movie gig on Saturday nights in 1990. I remember that Jeanne Summers took that over later and IMO she was hooked on T.V. at that point.

The longer it goes on about how Phil died will only fuel the negative. I truly hope it was just natural causes, but if it was. Why the secrecy around it?

The report said heart attack, but further in the article it says the family has made not commented on the cause of death . . . . sad regardless!

If indeed it was a Heart attack. Why write this at the end of the article? "So far, the family has not commented on the cause of death"

Sorry bout that Tulsa_Fan. You posted right when I did. Same Question I had.

Ironic that it's on a billboard that is one of Clear Channel's competitors.

So, how did you access the pole camera on the billboard?  Neat.

Stokely is also a tenant of Clear Channel.  They lease the event center space from Clear Channel for the newly opened Tulsa Event Center.  It is an offshoot of the Stokely Event Center.
