Title: Anonymous (sorta) claims to have hacked ORCA
Post by: Ed W on November 20, 2012, 08:13:13 PM
I won't include the whole letter here. It made my head hurt.  But apparently Anonymous is taking credit for the failure of the Republican get-out-the-vote effort in Ohio.  They claim to have hacked into Karl Rove's ORCA, and frankly I don't know if that's software or the name of the network.

If so, how would we know if they also hacked into voting machines?  It stands to reason that hindering ORCA would be far less effective than going after the votes directly.  Obviously, the latter is a criminal act, and I believe the former is as well because it's illegal to interfere with a legitimate electronic communication.

I first read of it via Jason Schneier:

I don't necessarily agree with Anonymous, but they don't really go after things unless they think there is the threat of malicious intent.  It could just be that they are paranoid, but then again, I trust Rove about as far as I can throw him, and I have a bum arm right now.

May we never see the day when people like that are the only ones allowed to own firearms.
