I am not sure why. But this election has sparked a passion in the voting public like no other. Our polling place stated this morning that in 2008. Around 300 people cast their vote. And as of 9:00 A.M. they had already seen over 300 people come in.
I believe polling records will be set like never before for this one. It will be interesting.

If that is the trend all over the country, I'd tend to think it benefits the challenger rather than the incumbent.

A reporter friend of mine said that the polling places in his hometown in Virginia are also packed that people are leaving because the lines are so long. Hopefully they will return to voter later in the day.
I suspect they will be even longer after 5pm when the Republicans get off work.

MC said I should expect a 30 minute wait. I'll probably take a later lunch and see if 1:30 or so isn't so congested. Or maybe I'll just be happy with the ten early ballots I submitted as "Smith" or "Jones".

Funny. I went at 8am and had maybe five in line in front of me. Also my polling location serves two precincts. I was in and out in 5 minutes.
I went at 6AM and I was the first in line. By 7AM when I cast my ballot there were around 100 people there. Much different than in 2008; when I arrived at 6AM I was about the 50th person in line.
I voted at the Mabee Center, was there at 7 am on the dot, was probably the 100th person in line or so . . . I forgot to look at the count when I put my ballot in. It took me 1 hour and 12 minutes to get thru the line and vote.
My wife was at the church at 8 and was number 259.
Took me about 10 minutes to get my ballot at 1:30.
The lady in front of me presented an expired driver's license which was only 6 days expired and was not allowed to vote. She was offered a provisional ballot since she did not have her voter ID card either. She chose instead to drive over to the tag office on Harvard to get her license renewed. The poll workers reviewed the law and basically said since it was expired it was no longer "valid".

I was #933 at a little after 2:30. Would have been 2, but somebody at the election board miskeyed my name and it took forever for the fine fellow helping me out to get through to verify that I am indeed registered here.
I'm disappointed in you guys. I thought my comment 'in and out in five minutes' would rate some kind of attempt at college humor. Damn.
;D

I thought the law was about identifying yourself correctly and not about ensuring that your documents were up to date. I don't care if she was voting R or D or I...the fact that she had to get her ID renewed to vote is BS.

I added my two cents that she was obviously who she said she was and being less than a week out of date didn't change that. However the poll worker said she was charged with enforcing the law.
She wasn't refused the chance to vote, they offered the lady a provisional. But as I gathered from the conversation, the lady said she really needed to renew the license and would return when she was done with that. I hope she remembered to stop by the house to get her birth certificate otherwise they won't renew it. Has to prove she's not a Mexican National, you know! Interestingly one of the poll workers thought a birth certificate would suffice as ID. That's the first I'd heard of that. I thought it was government issued ID or the voter registration card.
Anyone show their SDA card as proof of ID today?

I thought about doing that. Technically it would work.

That's even worse. If someone has to vote a provisional ballot because they don't/can't show ID, they have to show up at the election board office with ID in hand by Friday (I think, but am not positive, Friday is the deadline) or it won't get counted. Some states with ID requirements allow the voter to sign an affidavit under penalty of perjury that they are who they claim to be if the ID provided is not sufficient.
All I'm gonna say is don't blame the poll worker. They are following the law.
Where I voted they were specifically telling people that if they were going to use their DL as proof of ID, it could not be expired. An expired DL is not a drivers license, it's a piece of plastic. Try convincing a Highway Patrol officer otherwise if he pulls you over.
The law may not be perfect, but it is not entirely unreasonable. I was thoroughly impressed with the staff where I voted. Actually went in yesterday. In an out in about 20-25 minutes. But it was the only polling station open early in Bartlesville.

I have. He told me to slow down and get my license renewed on Monday.
It requires a belief in magic to think that the piece of plastic confirms your identity on your birthday but does not the next day.

We should fix the law. She was clearly whom she claimed to be: herself. Voting should not be made more of an ordeal than it already is.
Saw a mother taking a picture of her son filling out his first ballot today. Pretty neat. Also, my 7 y/o "voted" today for Mitch Romney, because he is going to allow us to "keep our money". My wife and I had nothing to do with planting that in his head--school must have. Getting my money's worth after all. :)
I was the 931 voter at the Bixby North precinct. Workers said the morning was insane. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Way shorter than usual. :P

I didn't check my number. I got to the poll at 7:15. Got out at 8:00. The A-L line was still long at 8:00. The M-Z line was empty for about the last 15 minutes I was waiting.
Seems old Santa couldn't get the addresses correct and left the presents to the wrong people. Poster here cannot figure out on fixing up the old ski boat to use in all those miles of the reconstructed river or advertise for a row boat to get around in Brookside and South Tulsa case of increasing gasoline prices.
Polling people at VCS where turning people away who tried to use their voter registration card for ID even though the signs behind then and the law says it is perfectly valid. Luckly I had my ipad so I could pull up the statute and go ahead and vote. I didn't get to vote until close to 4 so I wonder how many where turned away before then.
Glad my voter ID card was not in wallate when I misplaced it.
I hate auto correct... going to stop fixing...
Apparently AEP is angry about the election. The damn power went out in my neighborhood. :P

Ill bet he will still want to copy the information from it, "expired" or not.
Trying to renew your driver's license a day after it expires also means you stop being you, as well.
Apparently the information on an expired DL is valid for some things but not others, depending on who's hypocrisy you follow.
