Well - I was hoping when they started leveling the land that we might get an actual restaurant of some sort but the sign went up today that it's going to be a Whataburger. At least it will hide the Wal-Mart from view somewhat! ;D
Is this on 21st a block west of Yale?

Like a gaudy Whataburger would improve the looks of the neighborhood.
The smell of those places from the outside insure I never go inside.
What a step down for Mayo Meadows.

I quit going there when I learned this after having one of their Hatch green chile burgers last year:
QuoteTwo 100% pure American beef patties, two kinds of cheese - Monterey jack and American - all topped with our roasted, seasoned green chiles. Only available in West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Sounds great, right?
Then there's this:
Quote... added to protect flavor, dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent added. ... added to protect flavor, dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent added.
Anti-foaming agent on/in a hamburger? W T F?
They will be a great neighbor for Panda Express.

..and walmart, and an empty race track and empty baseball stadium and a run down waterpark.
Is that Sears going to close?
Dimethylpolysiloxane is used in the frying oil of just about every fast food burger joint.
Whataburger is a ground lease ....from the ole Mayo Meadow owner's son....John Nidiffer.
My mistake....I am only right most of the time.

Super. I'd love to hear some.
Has anyone else noticed this building? The back faces the intersection, and the "front" where all the windows are faces back towards the west? Not that I had high hopes for a fast food restaurant, but couldn't they at least give people driving by something to look at besides the employee entrance and the line of cars in the drive through? Ridiculous!
Yea - it is really odd - probably just trying to attract their "clientele" i.e. Wal-Mart customers. But on the bright side, it does completely hide Wal-Mart if driving south on Yale all the way to the intersection.

Hiding a Wal-Mart with a Whataburger? That makes sense. ::)
I will say the outdoor lighting around the Panda Express is much more sedate than any Whataburger I have seen.
So my concern at this point is, unless Whataburger suddenly decides to break their old bad floodlighting habits, they will overwhelm the Panda Express, who will then feel the need to "ratchet" their lighting to keep up.
FYI, the city only addresses non-complying lighting by citizen complaints to the MAC. If that should be necessary, the more the merrier...
