What's the weather like outside?
If you plan to exercise in the heat, please consider using a heart rate monitor. You may be surprised at how hard your heart works, particularly if you're in good shape already. A modest incline that's no challenge at lower temperatures can cause your heart rate to max out in the heat - without the burning muscles and shortness of breath that would normally indicate you're working hard.

Not too incredibly bad when I was just out. At least the humidity is not WAY up.
I'd definitely do running/cycling/strenous activities either early am or late pm for the next week though...it appears we are expected to be in the 100s for the next week. I have a garden to turn over and some other yard work to do and was wanting to put off until my vacation the week of the Fourth, but I'm afraid if I do it will be 2011 hot by then.
Well, I'm going for it. Calling 911 to scramble the helicopters to keep watch. Doctor is on standby....
I thought you were going to run for political office. Despite our constant bickering, I do think you are a man of principles and would be a fine public servant. I would even give you a small check for your campaign.
I wouldn't vote for you, however.

I'd vote for you....Now, I am permanently "one upped" on you.
As for the run, not that bad. Only needed two IVs and the defibrillator once. It really was a wonderful evening. Having Siegis and Ludger's for dinner just to make sure whatever value I got from the exercise is completely wiped out.
I need to go for a run if for no other reason then to see how far I can run just coming back from Denver.

Thanks. I am not sure I would even vote for me.
I get asked to run on a regular basis. It is a compliment that people like me and think I would do a good job. I am not sure about that because I can be such a purist on some issues and would refuse to compromise. That would lead to unhealthy relationships among other elected officials and gridlock.
I prefer helping candidates. I regularly text, e-mail, call, or discuss issues with elected officials. My job gives me excellent access and I get invited to lots of events with important people. I am happy that they listen to me.
Being a trusted advisor is plenty of politics to me.

Well, all I can tell is that I haven't caught you in a lie - so you would be a lousy politician!
Sorry, but that lifestyle just isn't for you....
Went out last night and cramped out at 1.5M mark. Rested for 20 minutes and ran 1M more. Today's lesson: coffee is not a hydration substitute before running. Neither are Flaming Hot (yes, I said "flaming") potato chips a good pre-run meal.
I rode from my house out to NSU in BA and back yesterday which is about 56 miles. I felt pretty solid until I got back to 31st & Riverside which is about 6 miles from home. At that point, my computer was showing 98 degrees on the pavement, at that point the heat was pretty taxing and slogging up the hills on 36th St. wasn't much fun.
You cannot over-hydrate in this sort of heat. Drink plenty of water whether you are working in the garden or working out and if you are exercising over an hour, be sure you have a sport drink like Gatorade or Powerade. I have a supplement called NUUN tabs which are easy to carry. When I run out of my original bottle of electrolytes, I toss a couple of the tabs in with fresh water in a sport bottle so I make sure I've got plenty of body fuel. Red Bull, Monster, and other "energy" drinks are NOT good alternatives. They are nothing more than a bunch of sugar, caffeine, and B12 complex. They aren't bad for an energy base before setting out on a workout, but not really what your body is looking for when you are sweating a lot.
My run at around 5PM last night was tough. I was fine through the first four miles but then my legs felt like lead. I think its hard to draw oxygen when the air gets over 100F.

Don't you just love the smell of hot asphalt?
