I've never heard a good reason. I get closing and locking it, that is not uncommon. But I walk by every now and then and it is rarely open. I believe when it is open there is a guard present.
What gives?

What time do you walk by? According to the site it closes at 5:30 http://www.jhfcenter.org/reconciliation-park/
I tried going on weekends shortly after it was built and no dice, but it's been awhile.
Here's a tread from 1 year ago:

It's been open when I've wandered over there during my lunch break recently
Don't know about weekends. or after 5:00
I went to the park two Saturdays ago while riding my bike and it was open. My sister and I walked the labyrinth, strolled the garden and talked about current day race relations in small towns. There was also some kind of photo shoot going on... maybe a high school senior. It was beautiful, and yes, there was a guard on-site. A handful of other people showed up before we left.
The fact that we have to lock it and keep a guard there is disheartening.
I've tried to stop by on Sunday several times and it was always locked.

Yea, that's a pretty damn sad thing.
My kids wanted to go there after seeing it so we stopped... 6:00 on a Friday... it was locked.
WTH is it reconciling 9-5 M-F with a guard?
Geez, a park with locked gates, fences, a guard, and limited hours.
Sounds like a prison rec area.

Considering what it was built for? Sounds more like Oklahoma...

I'm going to have to agree with locking it up sadly.
Until the area around it is developed more and there's less chance of it getting trashed, better to preserve it than to let vandals destroy it.

To be precise, it sounds exactly like Tulsa
I've never heard of this park until today. I followed the link posted and hope to visit it one of these days, when it's open!

Don't think that's really trolling Floyd. Unfortunately, it's telling it like it is in these parts.
