They can be convenient for public gatherings where running water isn't available.  Other than that, bottled water is an incredible waste of oil resources in it's manufacture and transportation and contributes to tons of litter.  It blows me away how many different brands of water there are on the shelf.  The most ridiculous is Fiji water.  Water imported from Fiji.  Wow.

Buy durable re-usable containers, a good sink tap filter, and bottle your own for far less.

It's freaking water, people!

Even more reason to not drink the water in the creek

Some of it is driven by the advertising/novelty industry. We have a water bottler right here in Tulsa. You can get your company name or event custom printed on cheap throwaway water bottles. No kidding, it sits right next to Arkansas River. At least its upstream from Tulsa.

IIRC its around Gilcrease Drive and Charles Page Blvd. But not to worry, I believe they get their water from the city then filter it. Just thought the location was funny considering how Tulsan's feel about their river.

I actually need to buy some new bottles.  The ones I've been reusing are getting a bit beat up.  Many now have a convex rather than concave bottom and won't stand up on their own.
