Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said Wednesday that he didn't understand why some people appeared disturbed by rocker Ted Nugent's recent tirades against President Obama and Democrats.
"I can't figure out what people are talking about," Inhofe said on CNN. "He's talking about him, that Ted himself will either be dead or in jail. Now, how does that relate to the president? I have a real hard time putting that together."
Nugent laid into the "vile," "evil" and "America-hating" Obama administration over the weekend at the NRA convention in St. Louis. He proceeded to claim that he would be "dead or in jail by this time next year" if Obama is reelected and encouraged attendees to vote against Democrats and "ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November." On Tuesday, he doubled down in a radio interview, taking direct aim at Democratic leaders.
Inhofe maintained that these remarks were harmless and said that he was the one facing real threats.
"If you want to see how you can be abused, read my book 'The Greatest Hoax'

Kiss me, Horseface, my tonsils itch!
Always liked the music of the Amboy Dukes and Ted with them or alone. Have heard since about 1975 how he never knew that their music contained obvious drug references. He was only with them - for about 10 years - as lead man for several. And he never knew this was about drugs??

Andrew Rice
Jim Jones
Brad Carson
Anybody else that has ever run against him...
All infinitely better with good proven track records. And endorsements by the NRA! Both with a level of intelligence and morals that far outstrip the "alley cat" approach to the truth that Inhofe works with.

You and I disagree,
especially on Jim Jones. My opinion of Jim Jones is about the same as your opinion of Inhofe. I just couldn't vote for Rice or Carson but Jones was an effort to get him out of office. Unfortunately, for many elections I couldn't because our neighborhood got gerrymandered into Synar's district. Another one I couldn't stand.

Wow! One who did probably the most for his constituents while in office - at least since Page Belcher...
From wiki;
As a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, Jones secured House backing for a conservative tax cut in 1978. In 1979, he joined the House Budget Committee. Jones also was able to get Democrats to add more fiscal conservatives to the Budget Committee.
You really are swimming in the kool-aid, aren't you? That wonderful, fantastic world where the electorate consistently votes against it's own best interest.

From my deceased dad who went to many of Jim Jones' community meetings:
That SOB would stand there in front of everyone, lie to the constituents, tell them what they wanted to hear, go back to DC and vote directly opposite of what he told people in the town meetings.
From my Uncle on my dad's side (also now deceased) who went to a meeting with Jim Jones in North Carolina where my Uncle was living at the time:
No straight answers from Jim Jones. When my Uncle introduced himself to Jim, Jim recognized our last name and commented something to the effect of: Oh no, another one.
I think it was you drinking the Kool-aid.

Mmmmm...ok...
Never saw/heard any of that in my interactions with him. Always talked here the same as he voted in Washington - through out his terms.
Why was he in North Carolina? He was first district Congressman in Oklahoma. That does not compute. (I hope you are not thinking the religious freak Jim Jones...the REAL kool-aid guy...)

You probably had your Democratic Party blinders on. Or you lived in a more Democratic neighborhood so he told you differently than the meetings around SE Tulsa.
I don't remember why he was in NC. Probably some kind of political junket but I won't fault him for that. It was just chance that he was visiting my Uncle's stomping grounds.
NO, I am not thinking of the religious nut Jim Jones. I am thinking of Jim Jones, representative for Oklahoma's 1st District except for SE Tulsa/Bixby when it became obvious he might lose to a Republican and it became time to Gerrymander some of us into Synar's (2nd, I believe) district as his position was more secure.
I know I will not convince you that Jones was not universally loved. I only expect you to accept that some of us had the same opinion of him that you do of Inhofe. We don't have to agree.

I know there were many who didn't care for him. That's ok. There were a couple others on that list, too. Maybe you didn't like them either? Well, that's ok, too. Seems odd that out of 3 pretty good alternatives to the Inhofe, there wouldn't be at least one palatable choice. Oh,...except for that other thing - "extremeright-itis"???
Gerrymander is the name of the game. Have you looked at the 1st district lately?

No, I already said I wouldn't and didn't vote for them. I am not an extreme rightist. Many on the far right really tick me off. I don't agree with your opinion about the 3 you presented as being pretty good alternatives. I don't expect you to agree. Just don't be so disappointed that I don't find your palatable choices as palatable as you do.
Yep, both sides play the Gerrymandering game. It just gets a bit tiring hearing about some wonderful politician who everyone loved so much but depended on Gerrymandering to win his/her last few elections. Both sides.

At the very least, then, if you are tired of that gerrymander game, it would seem that, even if somewhat unpalatable (like Obama is to me), one would put up with that for the greater goal of getting rid of one who has been so long a poster child for bad political behavior. And then vote out the replacement the next time around....
ie, take a "hit" with Brad Carson or Andrew Rice just to get rid of Inhofe, then try to find another at least as good as Coburn the next time around. Short amount of pain to rid the state of a toxic malignancy...just good "medical" procedure.

Six years is far too long for an "acceptable" replacement to get ensconced. I'd vote for Dan Boren if he decided to run for Inhofe's seat if I didn't like who the GOP put up.

You are digging pretty deep now. I obviously think Inhofe is not as bad as you think he is. I am not willing to take a hit knowing that it's difficult to get rid of an incumbent. Would you have taken a hit to get rid of Jim Jones because I didn't/don't like anything about him? I doubt it. Get it through your thick head that I don't necessarily agree with your evaluation of acceptable replacement. Nor do I agree with you, and many here, that Inhofe is the worst human being that ever walked the earth. Get over it.
Edit:
Which district would you un-gerrymander to get rid of Inhofe? The Kansas-Oklahoma state line? My specific reference to gerrymandering was to keep Jim Jones in office. That particular travesty of justice was corrected, after the next census I believe. I know that Republicans have also used Gerrymandering to their advantage. That is why I added the "both sides" comment. Gerrymandering doesn't work so well on US Senate districts.
Red, I'm assuming Inhofe has run his last race, as I believe he's about 80 now. He's done a lot of good for his constituents over the years, but I believe he's been "Washingtonized". Oklahoma liberals who can't stand him because of his championing the oil industry apparently have no clue what a major impact oil has on the Oklahoma economy. Not just pumping, exploration and refining. There's a ton of oil patch infrastructure which is engineered, built, and serviced in Oklahoma.
Where he's lost my support is the way he brushed off his pilot error incident down in Texas and his attitude toward any effort to rein in earmarks. It's time for him to retire and let someone else with fresh ideas take over the seat.

Actually some good came of that incident. I don't remember the details but the FAA has a little less iron fist control over pilots involved in an oops. I believe it has to do with access to records regarding the oops.
Quoteand his attitude toward any effort to rein in earmarks.
I have mixed feelings on the earmarks. A unilateral position of not accepting earmarks will not reduce spending. Your tax money will just go somewhere else. The effort really needs to go to reduced spending.
If he doesn't run and the Republicans put up some religious wacko, I would seriously consider someone like Dan Boren who has complaints against him as not being blue enough.

Agreed on Boren.
I simply want a system where bills are literally five to ten pages long, and contain funding for that specific measure only- not something which looks like a pregnant golden retriever covered in ticks and fleas. The reason being is it's the worst form of quid pro quo and is often times an effort to buy a legislator's vote when they might otherwise have a serious issue with the main legislation in a bill. Earmarking has exploded in the last two decades, it's obviously being abused and could certainly be reined in.
All projects previously pushed as earmarks need to go through committee and become part of an omnibus spending bill.
