Obviously, this is a day off question.
For me nothing beats a day of riding the riverside (and adjacent) trails nearly all day then finishing the day off with beers on riverside watching the sun set. The section of the midland valley trail from the pedestrian bridge to 15th may be my favorite place in the world.
Can you tell I'm excited for spring?
Aside from the usual Woodward Park, River Parks, Rose Garden, etc. routine, I also like to walk through some of the older neighborhoods and my own neighborhood looking at the homes and critiquing the landscaping and such lol. "Oh, I like what they did there, oooh that looks like crap", then walk back up my own street and see my house and go, "egads we have got a lot to do,,, but at least it looks better than it did last year!". Which brings me back to best way to spend a beautiful spring day in Tulsa... working on the yard and in the gardens. Oh, and we now have 4 little chickens (Hyacinth, Rose, Daisy, and Violet) and are building a chicken coup lol. Oh and one other thing, I like walking around downtown once the weather is nicer, speaking of which I need to get down there and take some pictures for a series of Art Deco cards I am making.
Get outside and enjoy our beautiful city before it gets hot!
I need to get out and start geocaching again. Best way to get out and go just about everywhere
Cycling and spending more time on the back patio. MC and I planted our banana trees last night and she has gotten a nice arrangement of semi tropical plants scattered about our patio. I can't wait until the full leaf canopy over our backyard is back. It's a nice little oasis on spring and summer nights.
IMO, Tulsa is still one of the most beautiful places to experience spring.
I am going to be on board with the cycling thing you guy's go on about. Conan, I bought that bike and was able to get them down a little off of the 1 fitty. Man that thing makes you sore and figuring out 21 gears is a little tough but I plan on having fun with it.
The little lady likes her flower bed and this year I think I am going to help her with it. I have never been into that kind of thing but for some reason I would like to see the front of the house look....dare I say it ? pretty.
I have to make a trip out to 81st West to get my Tomato's from "Tomato Mans Daughter" It's Cherokee Purple time baby.

Awesome on the bike. Where on 81st is that? I think MC and I might have to hit them up.

Just West of Union. She has everything. Peppers, Cucumbers and all kinds of Tomato's. The best I have ever had.

I have never had success with Cherokee Purple tomatoes. They taste great, but I only get a few from each plant.

I have had good to moderate success with them. But last years heat made it impossible to grow anything but cactus.
I like to spend spring working around the yard and garden. Then, if the wind and temps are not too severe, I take a watercraft over to the river and paddle around. Its an interesting battle to see if the strong South winds can overcome the strong North river current. Mostly, they cannot. I still have to paddle hard upstream and coast a bit downstream.
The ducks and geese are always surprised but happy to share. The Pelicans are now clustering by the PSO jetty and life is good if only for a few hours.

I can't wait for the herb festivals in Sand Spring & Jenks. In addition, to the Cherry St Farmers Market to fire up.
For me it's jogging on the RiverSide Jogging Trail, with Blue skys and warm SunShine it feels like I can run on forever. I did alot of running this past weekend, I don't know why the city can't expand that parking lot at 41st & RiverSide Drive there is ample room to expand, I end up parking at a lot south of I-44 on crowded weekends. My favorite all time place to jog is on the Trinity Trail in Fort Worth, Texas, no cars around just a River on one side and open Texas Prairie on the other side, and a ribbon of trail ahead of ya. It's a heck of nice place to run. Omaha has some nice jogging trails too. The RiverSide Trail does have problems with too many dogs, and dog poop all over, people sometimes walk 3,4 and 5 dogs at a time. I'd like to see Riverparks ban dogs, Tulsa has dog parks just for dogs.

To summarize. Take the land next to the river that attracts people and pave it for parking. Ban dogs from Riverside paths, outlaw dog poop, limit dog walkers to one dog per person and....Omaha has nice jogging trails.
Somehow, in my opening discription I managed to omit the grilling and consuption of copius quantities of animal flesh. As fatty as possible please!
The best way, or the what actually happens? If it's the former, I'd enjoy sitting out on the swing while watching the birds and the tree rats fight it out in my neighbor's yard. If it's the latter, I'll be getting a fantastic tan from my monitor while I beat computers into submission instead. It never fails that someone has an "emergency" the minute I try to do anything that doesn't involve sitting in my office chair.

The opening caveat was "No Work!' squrill is your poison :D
It starts at around 7:am on a friday before work starts. I hit Google Earth and find little ponds locked in by fields or neighborhoods. I then take my lunch hour to drive as close as I can get to them and scout the area to make sure I can access them, and that they are not posted or fenced.
Saturday morning at 5:30 am just before the sun rises I set off with my gear, waders, and coffee thermos and fish until the sun rises. Usually it's silent, beautiful and none of the world's problems can touch me. By 8:00 I am back home making breakfast for the wife and kids. If I'm lucky, dinner includes my catch.
back in the day when I lived in cities with a real rush-hour...me an a buddy would get up early, load a cooler in the back seat, and sit in traffic chugging beers and laughing at the suits. I don't remember what we did the rest of the day...but I always woke up around 6 or 7p, pants around ankles and a nagging case of hemmoroid.

Trespasser!! Breaking the law? Doesn't sound like a good, moral, upstanding thing to do. I bet many would allow you if you just asked....
And no - Oklahoma law does not require a property to have "No Trespassing" signs to be considered posted. It is defined that all property is considered posted regardless of signage - the law was changed several years ago.

And now that I'm back in my hometown without a real rush-hour, I think an ideal spring day would just be me. loading a cooler in the back seat, chugging beers and off-roading my jeep on un-posted private lands.
Ahhh...now we see one symptom of your psychosis...talking to yourself!! You fit in well here!
Another good way to spend a beautiful spring day in Tulsa - for the next few days anyway - is to leave town midday and go to Honor Heights park to see the azaleas. Pale shadow of their former glory, but still beautiful.

Woody may have written it but I remember Arlo singing it. I thought Arlo wrote it too.

Paul McCready did the designs for the man-powered plane that was first successful. I forget the name of the long standing award he won. He also did the design for the man-powered plane that crossed the English Channel. I don't know that Paul did all the details but he was the head honcho.

Chugging beers and driving around in todays PC World. Oh the shame of it all. What next, displaying peace signs and smoking grass ?

Arlo wrote it and sang it and made the movie. Woody was key to the process - the surprising part is that is seemed like you were a fan!
That is what was so good about getting a 360 or so on the draft lottery!

Actually I'm in favor of alcolol prohibition in conjunction with legal weed....but that is for a different thread.

Just double checked, this only applies to land that is primarily devoted to farming, ranching, or forestry purposes, otherwise they have to tell you to leave, and give you the chance to do so, before it becomes trespassing.

Their "security" has seen me fishing other ponds of theirs before, and very politely asked me if I was having any luck. Not too worried about them considering me a trespasser.

You know, I'm pretty staunchly against drunk driving, but if someone wants to drive drunk at rush hour, it seems they're a lot less likely to do any real damage stuck in a traffic jam.

Yeah, I know....I guess I jumped to the conclusion that since he didn't say where it was, that is was probably in the country somewhere.
