Yeah, I'm sure there were military observation craft that were recording nearby. Not like the military to make those public though.

The story was that an optometrist was trying out his new Betamax, and the tape only re-surfaced when a family member began preserving decaying family movies onto modern digital media.
Home video cameras were really rare then, which is why there are few civilian recordings.
