Title: Plan B republican presidential candidate
Post by: RecycleMichael on February 21, 2012, 10:47:39 AM
If Santorum wins Michigan, then Romney is too damaged and can't win the nomination. The fiscal conservatives who back Romney will draft another candidate. They can't accept Santorum.

Maybe Jeb Bush. He will do what they say and will help win the key state of Florida.

Maybe Donald Trump. He could fundraise quickly and has no legislative record to use against.

Maybe Chris Christie. He raised a bunch of money for Bush and endorsed Romney early.

Maybe Sarah Palin. I vote by looks and people love her.

I smell a brokered convention coming...

I suspect Christie can't win a national election after the recent gay marriage veto thing. It's one thing for a politician to be against gay marriage in a state where the majority of the population is against it. It's another thing entirely to veto a marriage equality bill in a state where the majority do support it and the legislature passed it.

Basically, the NJ legislature gave him a painful one right in the derriere by sending that bill to him. He had to veto it to stand any chance with the religious freaks, but it puts him squarely on the wrong side of demographic and public opinion trends and will probably severely damage his chances come 2016. Apparently they don't play nice on the east coast.

Were there any fleas on the bill which may have made it a pile, or was it truly a singular proposal in the bill?

No fleas, unless you count specifically refraining from forcing clergy to officiate for people they don't want to.

Culture wars may weaken youth support for Republicans

QuoteSome Republicans said the party's moral tone could even revitalize support for the Democrats.

"If it's perceived as telling people what to do, then Republicans could awaken a sleeping giant that could significantly boost President Obama's re-election chances," said Ford O'Connell, a Republican strategist.
