About six months ago, I decided to write a book. I am at the end of it and I need to know how to go about getting it read and possibly published. I am sure that I will need someone to go through it and properly correct the lack of writing skills that I possess.
It is probably the only time in my life that I will do this so I am needing to know what to do to protect the story from someone just reading it. Telling me that it is no good and then tweaking things differently and publishing their own version. I know that is a huge assumption on my part but I don't want to be naive on the whole process either.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
People who read books think they are so smart.

There should be no shortage of literary agents or some sort of submission process to publishing houses out there on the internet if you Google that term.
What sort of distribution would you seek and what genre is the book? There's also many ways to self-publish these days, but you front all the publishing and printing costs.

Shop for an agent.
Talk to someone who has been through the process. I think of Jay Cronley. He is a bit of a snark but he can help you. His ex-wife, Connie, is a pretty good contact as well. There are lots of local writers who would be helpful.
Join a writers association.
Avoid self publishing.
Good luck. Writing is hard enough without having to become a marketer too.

Absolutely. He could go have drinks with William Bernhardt. Just don't get in the car with Bill afterwards.

I knew it would be best to ask you guys. It is a Non-Fiction, eye opening account on current topics of today. Lots of Drama and inside information that I am hoping will get the attention of the right people and possibly be written into a screen play.

That's especially annoying to those of us who know we are smart.
