Title: YMCA, Vandever and Chevy Dealership
Post by: jacobi on January 30, 2012, 12:19:44 PM
All three of thesew places were awarded downtown housing money recently.  I have yet to see any movement on these properties at all.  In fact, bill white is storing their busses in the Chevy dealership (at last check).  So what's the deal?  I've heard the money isn't exactly handed over the next day.  None the less, I hope we can see some movement on these projects soon.  I know the SNyders are still working on the aloft (man that thing is taking forever).

Thoughts?

I've actually seen some changes to the old Chevy dealership. I've always thought that building would make some awesome modern apartments. What a cool midcentury building!

Meh, mid-century is highly over-rated.  ;)

I think the changes are just boards being put up on broken windows.

I heard a rumor that Eliot had bought those.

Which doesn't mean they are empty though.

The view must suck now for the tenants.

The lack of openable door tends to suggest that, though.

You'd think...but take a gander at the Tulsa Club.

I bet its an improvement. Folk'll have to drive a little further for crack and compensated companionship now.

Also posted on the entrance:  "condemned"
I don't believe the Tulsa Club building is "condemned".
Perhaps that keep them fire startin' hobos out.

If I recall correctly, it took most of a year for the last projects that got 2025 money to start construction. Tribune II took even longer. Hell, Sager still isn't finished.

I don't think we are anywhere close to having to worry about them yet. They each have to negotiate a contract with the city on the loan and then get the other financing arranged. The BOK Center was done before the housing projects.
