Yes they did, seems like it was a much bigger deal last year, or maybe they just tried to downplay it this year.  Sad . . . . these thugs likely have no compreshension of what the day is about.

Simmer down, Patric has not blamed it on the police yet.

QuoteLaw enforcement officials used horses to try and contain the crowd after the Martin Luther King Jr. parade in downtown Tulsa.

The parade started at 11 on Monday morning and went through the Greenwood district of downtown.

In the video, the crowd runs from the horses, then police lead 18-year-old, Marquis Jones and 19-year-old, Edward Boyd through the crowd in handcuffs.

Authorities said animal control told Jones he couldn't have his pit bull at the parade. They said he refused to listen, and minutes later chaos broke out. Deputies, on horses charged into a crowd. Some folks trapped were between guard rails.

"The fools from the Sheriff's Department came running down with horses," said witness, P.J. Slusher. "Running everybody into the fence with kids out here."

"That was uncalled for, for law enforcement of Tulsa," said witness, Scott Gordon.

Deputies said they did the best they could. Coy Jenkins has worked Tulsa County for more than a decade.

"We're law enforcement, and it's our responsibility to keep this a peaceful holiday," said Jenkins. "A lot of time people don't want that to happen."

Before getting lead away in cuffs, Jones' dog ended up in a fight with another dog. They just happened to be too close to each other. Even TPD's gang unit intervened.

Deputies said when they tried to break it up, some in the crowd refused to move. Deputies and officers felt threatened.

"We got away just in time when the horses came by my kids," said witness, Tanisha Hughes.

All of this happening on a day set aside to honor a man who stood for non-violence and peace.

Jones was arrested for possession of marijuana, and obstruction. Boyd is accused of resisting officers. One of the Sheriff's Department's horses was injured, although it's unclear how badly. A woman in the crowd reportedly suffered an anxiety attack.

Do they get to drive their horses home at night?

I think it is interesting that FoxNews was the only news outlet to report anything happening. Their words seem to add to what happened.

I spoke to friends who saw what happened and they said the cops chased a couple of people and arrested them. The officers on horseback came over and watched what was happening. They said there were five or six people who yelled back at the police.

If I just got my news from Fox23, I would have assumed chaos broke out and people were trapped. If I listened to patric (who used the word "riot" in his headline), I would have thought this was a war.

This seemed to be a minor incident. If it had been any more, there would be protests about police brutality. Instead, it appears we have Fox News inflaming the story and patric using the opportunity to once again write about his disregard for law enforcement.

...in the greatest Western ever made.    ;)
Meanwhile in a time period seemingly not far removed;

There were two dogs fighting at the MLK parade.

Authorities said animal control told Jones he couldn't have his pit bull at the parade. They said he refused to listen, and minutes later chaos broke out. Deputies on horses charged into a crowd. Some folks trapped were between guard rails.

Earlier stuff on the web doesn't show much at all, but later on their 10-o'clock news they showed several angles of the horses trampling the crowd and people being knocked over, but like they said, most people were unaware of it as you had to be right there.

I didn't see any coverage this year, but I remember seeing lots of African Americans on horseback at this parade and others in the last few years.

None of them looked as exquisite as Cleavon but darn close.

So, if they were "trampled" were they taken to a hospital?

Was David Garrett there with business cards in hand?

If they're there to break up dog fights (on horseback?), then they really don't understand the community.

Anyone else notice a lock down on information?

You can safely say you followed the links to the news stories and saw the video.

New video continues to emerge:

It looks like animal control officers were trying to stop a dog fight and the dog owners caused enough problems to get themselves arrested. I didn't seee any horses anywhere in that video.

I could've sworn they'd run out of money for the horses a while back.

The City did, and dissolved it's mounted patrol.  Monday's incident involved the county's mounted patrol.
As a fellow horse owner, I knew one of the city's mounted officers, and I'm inclined to believe that he would have exercised more restraint.

I talked to a friend on the force.  Apparently the only reason that there were police on horseback was because funding for the Tulsa Police ton ton program dried up.  Next year they hope to be able to provide officers on ostriches with jousting poles.
