His death was announced during a Tulsa City Council meeting Tuesday.

Services are pending.

Walter and his wife Peggy Dow Helmerich have been benefactors of Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma through the Helmerich Foundation charitable trust. The Tulsa Parks system, Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa Public Schools and secondary education in Oklahoma are just a few of the organizations that have benefited from his generosity.

Now let's see how many of those "Won't happen while Walt is still alive" things happen in and around the Utica Square area.
