I could have sworn I read somewhere about them touring with the "original" line up. I suppose Michael Anthony might take issue with that claim. Well, I guess genetically-speaking Wolfie was a part of the line up from the beginning. ;D

Friend of mine tells me he has heard that they will make a stop at the BOK Center on May 1st.
After further searching, Pollstar indeed reports it.

I will stick to my statement....thin product and most shows the curtain comes down for 6500 seats....we could've used the Civic Center. And where are all the conventions? So funny to see the condemnation of TTC predictions and the same peeps protest the waste in social government programs....
Van Halen plays a set at Cafe Wha? in the Village to announce their new album and tour.
Why Cafe Wha? Because David Lee Roth's uncle, Manny Roth, 92, opened the place in 1960.

Most shows they know will generate less than 7000 get booked at the CC. Some artists like to curtain off the top and feel like they're playing a smaller venue.
Face it TTAC, your prognostication hasn't happened like you thought it would. 3.5 years old and this building is turning a profit and winning awards. I guess that burns.

Rock band Van Halen - including original frontman "Diamond" David Lee Roth - announced 40-plus arena tour stops during a Thursday night club show in New York City.
The band will indeed perform May 1 at the BOK Center, Paige Reese, BOK Center director of sales and marketing, confirmed in a phone call to the Tulsa World on Friday morning.
Ticketing prices and on-sale information will be announced soon, Reese said.
The band gathered for an exclusive show at Cafe Wha? in New York City on Thursday night and played a set of hits before making the tour announcement official.
"The last time we played a stage this low, we had to have the car home by midnight," Roth reportedly joked with the crowd.
Also, Van Halen's new studio album, "A Different Kind of Truth," drops Feb. 7 on Interscope Records. It's the first full album with frontman Roth since "1984," released that same year.
The band formed in California in 1972. Including its stints with other frontmen Sammy Hagar and even Gary Cherone, the group has sold more than 70 million albums globally.
This tour features Roth, Eddie Van Halen, his 20-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen, on bass and Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen on drums.
Hits include "Jamie's Cryin'," "Dance the Night Away," "And The Cradle Will Rock...," "Runnin' with the Devil," "Unchained," "Beautiful Girls," "Everybody Wants Some!!," "Panama," "Jump," "Where Have All the Good Times Gone!" among others.
The iconic band also has local ties. Tulsa Sound and Red Dirt musician and producer Steve Ripley built one of Eddie Van Halen's most complicated and sound-defining instruments after starting his Ripley Guitars business in 1982. It was called a "stereo guitar."
Ripley also built axes for Steve Lukather, J.J. Cale, John Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Jimmy Buffett and others. The guitar was featured on the recording of the Van Halen's seminal "1984" album, including the song "Top Jimmy."
"He had this idea where each string on the guitar has an individual pan pot. You have to use two amplifiers. On this guitar you can pan each string to whatever side you want," Eddie Van Halen said in a 1983 interview with Guitar Magazine. "I have a super-duper prototype which allows you to not only put each string to the left or right, but also add an effect to each string, left or right. It's a crazy sound. I use it on two tracks on the album and I'll definitely take it out live."
Ripley recently hinted that the custom guitar may also be used on the upcoming Van Halen album, too.
The band's new album deal with Interscope was finalized in November. Roth officially reunited with Van Halen for a tour in 2006.
The Tulsa show has been more than a year in the planning, Reese said.
"For some of us, this is definitely a 'dream' show. ... We're all excited about it."

Stand by my previous assessment of your disdain for the MotherShip. It's spun off the new hotel currently under construction, and who knows what other businesses benefit downtown from it. But I'm sure you'll just pshaw at all that revenue that would have otherwise gone to OKC, Dallas, KC or even Little Rock.

I don't think they toured last year... Hard to show up on the top tours list if you don't tour.
Their newest album is up on the charts. They played a great NYE set on Austin City Limits that received solid reviews. Coldplay is a great live band and I would certainly enjoying seeing them at the BOK. I saw them for the first time at the OKC Civic Center in 2003 and that show still ranks as one of the top shows I've seen live.
All that aside, saying that the BOK Center will only be a success if Coldplay comes is ridiculous. Before the mythical "debt service" it more than breaks even and is a great addition to our community so it's a success regardless of whether Mr Gynweth Paltrow performs there.

Ok guy's. We really need to put a ban on anyone under 21 posting on here. I didn't say I hated Coldplay or that they are a complete and utter joke(quote) I was stating let's see if they have the ability to sell as many tickets off of one album 33 years later like Roger Waters is doing.
As for my team. I have been a die hard fan since 1970. Through thick and thin, no band wagon jumping. So if you are a true fan of any team. That's the kind I want.
P.S. That's a terrible way to make your point, attacking something not even relevent to the subject matter. Now go take your nap. The pacifier is in your crib.

Where are they in this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_concert_tours)...this isn't pointed at you rdj, obviously. I don't care for Coldplay, but understand many do. But to use them as a measuring stick for the success of a venue reeks of fanboidom.
I'm a concert snob. I don't go to concerts just to go; when I was younger I got burned many times. Plus, there are some artists/groups who gouge the hell out of their fans, charging up to $100 for nosebleed seats. You get there and get 90 minutes of new and old hits and a half-assed performance.
The two best concerts I've ever seen?
1997 KISS, the first year they returned wearing the makeup with the original four members. I saw them at the Summit in Houston. That show was mindblowing for guys that age. They were on stage about 2.5 hours and the show gave me chill bumps on several occasions. Given I was a huge fan of KISS (old KISS, up to about the 'Asylum' album).
Last year, the Foo Fighters. How can you charge on ly 60 dollars for the best seats in the house, and also offer layaway for tickets? That caters to fans and draws them in. Case in point. A co-worker of mine came really just to see Motorhead (he's a naturalized US citizen via the UK). The next day after the concert, we talked some, and he told me that Foo had just earned a spot on the list of his 'I'd drive five hours to see these guys in concert'. Pretty powerful stuff. They were that damned good. Plus they were on stage for nearly 3 hours. I'd venture to say that the FF are this generations (well, at least my generation) Tom Petty. And to think Tom Petty offered Dave Grohl a full time gig to drum for him back in 1996 right after he recorded that first Foo album. Glad he turned them down.

From that list Lady Gaga, Pink & Britney Spears are in the top 31 musical acts of all time. That's a knee slapper.
I'm not defending Coldplay as an end all be all band, but they certainly have their place. Which BTW, they were the highest grossing British touring act in 2009. They added shows to their UK stadium shows on this tour because they sold out so quickly.
BTW, the pre-sale for the Black Keys sold out today. Club seats for that show are $80, lower level seats are $56.50. The Black Keys played Cain's not so long ago and quickly sold it out. Just another example of the success of the BOK Center...
Also BTW, I've never paid to see an act at the BOK Center. Only ever gone on someone else's corporate dime. Much cheaper that way.
Since we are talking favorite shows, it's hard for me to boil it down. So, I'll boil it down to just at the BOK Center, Metallica. I didn't see the Foo Fighters, but Metallica was pretty damn good.
this sucks....
they'll sell out BOK.

Why does it have to be either or? The Brady and Cain's are great music venues, but neither can host the large shows that appear at the BOK. The BOK has put Tulsa back on the concert map and we are getting many of the big touring acts each year. The Convention Center hadn't gotten those types of acts for years and wasn't ever going to get those types of acts (too small, too outdated and could not handle the structural demands of modern touring acts). The BOK has been a success and, by all appearances, will continue to be successful for the foreseeable future. That is good for Tulsa. It's amusing that its success seems to bother some Tulsans so much. If you oppsed it – you lost. If you predicted its failure – you're wrong. Get over it.

What I predicted was three years in the green and then the future would be red for the citizenry as the decline in revenues would be out paced by expenses. I've always maintained these types of projects make no economic sense unless you find a tenant like the Thunder. Sorry, I was never a status quo/Keep Up With the Jones' type....

Tulsa is in an enviable position of having stayed ahead on the economy since the BOK opened. I suspect if Tulsa and Oklahoma had gone 10% unemployment, the BOK might not be doing as well. Instead, it's staying near the top in event revenues.
I'm sorry TTC. I'm a broke sum b!tch and it's who they can get and bring here not how many as far as i'm concerned. I plunked down more than I should because Roger Waters see's fit to make a stop in good ol Tulsa and he wouldn't be doing it if we still had the Convention Center as our venue.

I think the BOK also weathered the recission in part because it was new, which helped it attrack more acts than if it had been a mature arena, which attracked better crowds. Also, because it was new and Tulsa had not had these kinds of concerts for so long, I think people were more willing to use their limited entertainment dollars to go to concerts.
NO AC at the concert tonight - What BS!
NO whining! :'(
