Title: Vehicle Transfer Notification, TX v OK
Post by: Townsend on November 16, 2011, 09:16:46 AM
Ever trade in a car or sell it and then get a parking ticket or someone goes on the turnpike and you get a ticket because they didn't pay the toll with your old car?  The fun can come when you find out about the ticket months later.

Even if you haven't, it can happen and does...often.

Texas has something called Vehicle Transfer Notification on the TX DMV site. https://vision21.txdmv.gov/Vehicle/VehicleLookup.aspx  (https://vision21.txdmv.gov/Vehicle/VehicleLookup.aspx) You trade or sell your car you can immediately report it and it is no longer your liability.

Oklahoma has a PDF form and it costs $10 to file.  I think it should be easier.

Just throwing that out there.

Yes...A friend of mine got a bill for a telephone pole someone crashed into....The purchaser of his vehicle never transferred the title......I think the bill was 2000.00....I believe it was quite a bit more than he sold the car for.....

Yep, the cops came to my door asking about my old Ford Explorer (sold five years earlier) because it had been used in a crime. I explained that I no longer owned it, gave them the last owner info that I had and then went in and changed my drawers.
