Opening at 13th and Peoria. Is Jason Smith still attached?
The building renovation looks good. That whole stretch of Peoria looks so much better than just a couple years ago with Phat Philly's and the renovations across the street. Wish they would have put a big outdoor seating area to the north of the building instead of the small parking lot (already parking behind) but looking forward to its return. The one on Detroit was open until 3 am, surely this one will be too?
In my wild, deveopment filled dreams, I would love to see the north east and west corners of that intersection developed (in the usual multistory, multi-pourpose theme that we all pretty much agree on). Iguess I'll keep on dreaming.

It may happen eventually. That entire corridor is being transformed. Tracy Park is a cool little neighborhood.
Well I think that intersection is important because 13th is halfway between the pearl and cherry street as well as being a gateway into downtown. I think the area under the IDL on 13th needs to be developed more fully (there are soccer goals there now, but nothing else) Now if only someone had the backing to do something about the pawn shop. That place used to be the best place in town to buy used music gear. It has fallen so far.
That stretch of 13th is one of the strangest streets downtown. It's gotta be the street with the most excess capacity. Four lanes but you only see one car every five minutes between Peoria and Detroit, even during business hours.
That makes it a great gateway from downtown to Cherry Street on foot or bike. But it's only good in that regard because it's completely devoid of cars. Next step should be toward actively making it a good bike/pedestrian street. Replacing the two outer lanes to make big bike lanes and wide sidewalks would be nice.

13th Street use to be the main artery into Downtown from the suburbs before the IDL was completed. I've heard that the BA Expwy ended just east of Utica and traffic was diverted down 13th St to Boston.
I think its great that these buildings are getting a new life. I also love that a Phat Phillies is going in across the street from a Cross Fit gym - problem and cure.
13th would be a perfect street for reduction to 2 lanes (one each way) and bike lanes. It is one of the few continuous streets from Boston to Lewis and connects several neighborhoods. 6th is another good candidate with its connection to TU.

I have to disagree. Once the change goes into effect for Cherry street, I think you are going to see more people use 13th as a way to avoid the choke point on 15th between Quaker and Peoria, and if they changed 13th and 6th it would cut easy street access to 11th street and 3rd street.

Both 13th St and 15th Street are a nice climb from Boston to Lewis, but you don't have to pedal at all heading west bound.

My 1971 map of Tulsa shows pretty much what you said. The transition to the arterial streets is not explicit. Both 13th St and 14th St are marked as one-way but divided. I think the BA exited to 13th Pl for at least a bit inbound and outbound was 14th St to near Utica.
Does anyone know if this has opened yet?? Getting hungry.

QuoteCheez-Whiz, Phat Philly's opens in new location
Phat Philly's is back. The popular former downtown restaurant has opened at 1305 S. Peoria Ave.
...
The new restaurant will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and, just as it used to be, 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

Not on tips, that's for sure.
Awesome. Now I don't have to drive to effin' 51st and Memorial to get a philly!

Where are they getting their rolls? It's difficult to get real Hoagie/Steak Sandwich rolls outside the Delaware (river) Valley.

Good question. I'm not much of a bread snob. Maybe I would be if I had had a philly in Philadelphia.

However, the roll would make it Genuine Philadelphia. It can have a slightly different roll and still be a really good sandwich. There is even disagreement (on the internet) among people in the Delaware Valley on which bakery makes the best hoagie/steak sandwich rolls.
Phat Phillys upgraded their beer selection, too, apparently.
They have Marshall IPA on tap. They used to only have some bud/miller/coors cans.

I'm pretty sure Steak Stuffers has been closed for quite some time.
Not having a Forum lunch soon to take advantage of this would be asinine.

It is just north of Cherry Street, not really Brookside. And they apparently had traffic downtown. Their late night traffic should increase at the new location. The only thing open that late on weekends is Whataburger and McDonalds. They will probably get some good college crowds at that hour. As far as working, its not any worse than working the 24 hour shift at a fast food restaurant or IHOP. There are some people for whom that shift works. I personally couldn't do it though.

They're still there, and show no outward signs of going away. They do a very good lunch business.
Sometimes they seem like they ought to not be in business, what with closing at 8PM and not being open on weekends, but no.
Edited to add: Unless they closed in the last week and a half or so, anyway...
I tried Steak Stuffers once right after I moved back to Tulsa. I got a thick bun with a few crumbles of what I think was beef. Could barely taste it. Mostly bread and a few drips of cheese sauce. I am not exaggering by much either. Paid a decent price for it too. I obviously have not been back. I was hoping for a meaty, cheesy sandwich. That is far from what I got. Maybe it was a one time bad experience, but it has kept me away ever since. I intend to try Phat Phillys soon. I heard good things when it was downtown but never made it.

Being a steak stuffers fan (phat phillys not being around and all) I have never seen or heard anyone complain about not getting enough food. Sorry for your experience, but know that it was most definately the exception rather than the rule....

I'm wondering if he got Steak Stuffers confused with some other place. I've never heard of anyone leaving there thinking they didn't get enough to eat.
I was there over Christmas break with my son. Very busy. Still good and larropin' to me. I did find the bread was not as good as I remembered it but the size was fine. I also like Phat Philly's and am glad to see it is nearby. Their sandwiches were larger. Neither place is cheaply priced.
Mushroom, cheese and peppers. Dessert was fried pineapple slices.

I live two miles from there. tried it twice. crappy both times.
It's like overcooked & dry steakums on a chewy bun. Saying they make a good cheesesteak is like saying the Big Mac is a good steak.
Phat Philly's is open, is good. I picked up some phillies around 7:15 and it was rather busy.
Apparently people prefer shiny and new to cramped and run down.

I guess "you" can't win them all.
;D
When it comes to late night post-bar eats there are four worthwhile options phillies, dog house, Joe mamma's, and tacos Don. They are all good. I'm glad to have phat phillies back. We are a very lucky city.
Are they planning on doing any signage? Or are the cheez-whiz-colored awnings sufficient to get the point across?

So far people seem to be finding the place without much difficulty if the crowds are any indication.
So when does everyone want to do a TNF lunch there?

Good with me.
Me likey.
I have been twice already. They had steady lines both times.
This is just the latest in a number of rehab development along Peoria north of Cherry St to 11th. I like the mix of businesses that have opened in what was just a year or two ago vacant, delapitated buildings (CrossFit 918, Eats2U, Phat Phillys, This Land). It's great for the established Tracy Park neighborhood to the west and the gentrifying Forest Orchard to the east.
Ate there yesterday. Same great food, entirely different ambiance!
I didn't feel the need to check my sandwich make sure a roach (not the creepy crawly ones) wasn't in there ;o)
Seriously though, much nicer, larger place, and great food!
In my best Arnold voice, "I'll be back"
Yep, I think they have a hit on their hands. As per SXSW's post, most definitely a welcome contribution to the street scape.

Now they need to add signage...I smoked right past the building until I realized what it was.
But yes, I like the vibe. Feels open, even when it's crowded.
Advice: if you want a place to sit down and eat, get there earlier than noon. If you want to avoid being 12 deep in line, get there at 11:30.
