Title: Cain wins an upset victory in Florida presidential straw poll
Post by: GG on September 24, 2011, 08:07:55 PM
Herman Cain pulled off a shocking upset victory in Florida's Presidency 5 Straw Poll on Saturday. The Georgia businessman won more votes than the Republican primary's frontrunners -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney -- combined.

The former Godfather's Pizza CEO captured 37 percent of the vote, while Perry took 15 percent and Romney took 14 percent.

Cain's surprise win threatened to upend the popular notion that Perry had become almost untouchable just weeks after announcing his presidential bid. It also underscored Perry's recent struggles on the campaign trail, including two weak debate performances and a barrage of attacks from other candidates over his positions on Social Security and immigration.

Shocking indeed. Not shocking pink but shocking none the less. ;D

So, he's next in line to be vilified by his own party? :-X

In the entire state of Florida there were only 2,657 votes "cast" in the straw poll. It means nothing.

You're right, Michael. It's essentially meaningless, but it's a shiny object that will fascinate the media for a couple of days.

It is as reliable as most polls of likely voters.

Plus, it is a reaction as much as anything to Rick Perry's poor showing in the most recent debate.

I agree. Perry looked terrible in the last debate. I think his campaign is in trouble.

He was way ahead in the polls before he opened his mouth last week. Telling republicans they have no heart if they don't agree with offering tuition discounts to illegal aliens was really stupid.

I think outright lies qualify as a poor showing in any debate. Go Cain.  :'(

That was his old 'democrat' seeping out, Michael.  Republican Texas governors are only republican until they have to deal with the issue of illegal immigration.
