President Obama's campaign has launched a new website encouraging people to report negative comments made about the president. Being a good subject, I have taken it upon myself to report myself and set up a simple script to re-populate the form for every post I make on various forums.
http://my.barackobama.com/page/signup/o2012-attackwatch-report-an-attack
This has been done in other countries with great success. Perhaps it will serve to root out opposition forces and put an end to any defiance of this administration.
I wonder if his campaign will be sharing any of this information with the administration? Remember when they tried this before with the flag@whitehouse.gov email address?
Well, this was perfectly legal until 16 hours ago because it was set up by his campaign, not the administration. Unfortunately the president felt it necessary to promote the site by tweeting it from his official twitter account. He is now in violation of the Privacy Act of 1974 and its amendment in 1977.

Actually, that's his campaign twitter account (see that big 2012 down there?).
The Whitehouse has a separate twitter account.

But you know that anything that Gas thinks he has on that damned liberal, he's gonna try and use it. I wish sometimes this forum had a squelch knob. At least one half of them has stopped posting...

And that would be fine if he were simply a candidate, and this effort was only tied to an independent group outside of the federal government, and not tied to the executive branch. However, he is the executive branch and this is the twitter account that he frequently uses, and has used throughout his presidency to communicate with the American people. It would only take about 2 seconds for the Eric Holder Justice department to look up 3 years of tweets on this account and establish it as a mouthpiece for the president, not simply a campaign account.

Do you support this effort by the president? Is this something you can be proud of your leader for?
What if President Bush had set up a website encouraging people to report anyone who spoke negatively about him?
I wonder how the media would treat that?

I wouldn't care either way. Continue to assume what I and others think. That's why you lose credibility here.

Ok, if that kind of thing doesn't bother you, then fine. I have a feeling you are being less than honest though. I bet if the Bush administration set up a website where citizens could report their neighbors for saying negative things the Bush administration, you would have something to say about it. ;)

Once again, you're trying to assume you know what I think.
You'd lose that bet. Play again. Calling people 'less than honest' isn't helping your cause any.

My apologies then.
It's just very hard for me to comprehend anyone who would see such actions by OUR government as just, but then again, our President does.

I wasn't the one who passed judgement on his actions. I simply stated that red or blue, I could care less what they do during the campaign phase as long as it doesn't violate the law. You're making assumptions that no-one else, on either side, are making. At least that I'm aware of.
I think most people would call that a 'wish sandwich'. You are also assuming (my guess anyway) that these stats that will be compiled will be used to send out the troops to place chinese handcuffs on such people and make them listen to the DNC acceptance speech 100 times in a row. Do you know what the intentions are for compiling such statistics? I don't. If you do, then you need to be in the clairvoyance profession.

Perhaps you are correct. I am not an attorney. Let's see how this plays out over the next few days.

I'm thinking that Guido stole Scott's login...
Man, something like that. I just have to skip over it most of the time. It's cringe worthy.
My neighbors stupidity and spitefulness reflects back onto themselves. Just like their McCain/Palin sticker did 30 months AFTER the election.
Ok, they're obviously racist.
See. What goes around comes around.
Obummer needs to keep his enemies close. My neighbors? screw 'em.

QuoteObama for America national field director Jeremy Bird said the site offers "new resources to fight back," including policy issue pages that fact check statements by Obama's Republican opponents with links to "evidence" to back them up. Its slogan is "Get the facts. Fight the smears."
According to the site, Obama volunteers can also help campaign headquarters keep track of attacks on the president by submitting "reports" via mailform and tweeting about them using the Twitter hashtag #attackwatch.
The initiative is a throwback to a similar online effort launched by Team Obama during the 2008 campaign, called Fight the Smears.
Sounds pretty "Bush evil".

I say the same thing about my black neighbors with their Obama '08 sticker still on their car. Truly an indication they hate old white men.
I've thought about over-laying it with a "Sorry Yet?" sticker.

my black friends wanted to steal his vehicle.....
In all honesty, the site looks to be more about collecting and correcting those viral emails that are so popular among the more intellectually challenged segment of the population. You know the ones: "Obama is a secret Muslim!" "Obama is going to take your guns!" "Obama is a socialist under Moscow's control!" "Obama is an alien from outer space!" "Obama is the anti-Christ!"
Spreading lies and their associated fear is relatively easy, but refuting them takes time and research. How many times has a co-worker said, "Politician X is a known communist/fascist/homosexual/omnisexual/heterosexual/etc."? Someone can make a statement that is probably wrong, but to refute it, to counter it with authority takes some time. Meanwhile, the story spreads.
Truthiness is a fun political game, but it's degrading our political dialogue. We face genuine problems that require serious discussion, and yes, compromise when it comes to finding solutions. Muddying the waters with BS does a disservice to us all.

Sorry Ed, but Gas is correct.... I am an Obama brownshirt.... and if you don't agree with me, I'll send a 6'4" African American union boss in shiny shoes to rob and assault you at knife-point, carve the letter B on your cheek, and exclaim: "YOU ARE GOING TO BE A BARACK SUPPORTER!!!" :o
