Holy smokies....east coast ....5.8 centered in VA http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/usc0005ild.html
May 5th 1897 last major quake in the area. When was that New Madrid movement last?
Felt as far north as Toronto. 10 seconds long in Philly. Manhattan moderate.
Is this fracked up? Several Nuclear plants put on alert.
I think there was one in Colorado earlier today....small tremors in California.
Are we right in the middle? YIKES!?
We have an office in VA. They said that the shelves rattled a bit. Nothing major.

Travelers will be feeling this the most. Gridlock. It's time like these in the Northeast that lead to population increases.
Good dress rehearsal and wake up call.....
A quake hitting D.C. is a sign. God hates deficits and debt. Get to work on that deficit reduction boys & girls.

If He's trying to stop Inhofe, we may all be doomed.
They say it's now a 5.9- What makes it serious is that none of the buildings, roads and bridges are made quake resistant along the east coast as they are in California. They had a quake in Colorado yesterday, a rare place for a quake. Reports have said that skyscrapers rocked in Columbus, Ohio & Indianapolis. :o
Just wait someone will blame the quake on global warming.

Why would someone do that? What do you know?
Maybe climate change. ;)
It was felt at Martha's Vineyard. So, you think it could be an omen?
Conan, "God hates deficits and debt"....you just confirmed you know zilch about economics. Thanks. ;D
New Madrid could be huge....someday. That will be the fault of the South.
National Cathedral had damage and it may be structurally significant. This is referred to as The National Church.
Conan, your assertion that "A quake hitting D.C. is a sign" makes me wonder.... ;)

I'm just noticing how AOX and the kraut both became real active today. Things that make you go... hmmmmm...

Hey, D.C. is our den of sin-izens. Makes Lost Wages look like Romper Room ;)
"It's now being reported that the actual epicenter may have been in Charlottesville, at Monticello. Apparently word finally reached Jefferson in the afterlife about Michelle Bachmann's candidacy and he started spinning violently in his grave."
I think it's all the fracking going on nearby.... :)

I think you missed my point. If it's a sign, one from "god", then he's trying to remind people (sin-izens et al.)
the church may not be stable. :D

Oh no, I got your point. I also got a wife in Chino. ;D

Well... it could be that all the ice melting at the north pole has shifted the water and weight distribution of the planet. Plus the warmer atmosphere is adding pressure in other areas. Oh, and the drought in the middle of the country has made the earth here lighter so its rising up a bit here, aaand the hurricane is pushing up from the south. All that adds up to an earthquake if you ask me. ;D 8)
Thanks artist, I neede a good laugh!!!!

Is that due to the large balloon around the earth holding the air in?

Very well could be, hadn't thought of that. I was looking at my desktop globe today and had a revelation. You lesser intelligent people may not know this but the earth is actually not round but is squished a bit at the poles. The shape is called an "Oblate Spheroid" (that can be your word of the day). But back to that globe and my revalation. As I was looking at the globe I noticed that this Oblate Spheroid shape is very likely caused by the constant pressure of the wingnuts on either pole :o Hows that for scientific deduction? 8) Another mystery solved.

Sounds good. Be careful though. If you tighten the wingnuts too tightly on the rod going through the globe, the earth's rotation will slow down. Then we will all need to buy new clocks.

Well, maybe that too.
I was thinking more along the line of having to redefine an hour to still have 24 hrs/day if the earth's rotation slowed. :D

Some New Jerseyites think it's cause was Chris Christie fell off his chair...
I will stick to all the fracking....
No it was a result of the Bush Fault.
Watch out....do you have earthquake insurance?
This guy has insured he'll be right by covering the entire earth.

I hear Carrie Underwood is composing a song with Elton.

Very good and the melting ice burgs drift south in the ocean cooling off the air giving us record cold winters.
It seems to me if Tulsa had a quake of any size around 6.0 many homes here will suffer massive damage with homes built on crawl spaces made of poured cement in clay soil, any ground movement will move the foundation and crack or damage the poured crawl space shifting the home built on top of it. Slab homes could do even worse. I don't know if that's the case but it seems like it will happen that way.
