Title: Web Sites
Post by: DolfanBob on June 30, 2011, 11:24:52 AM
For several years I have had just a handfull of web sites that I go to and read daily. I have finally come to the conclusion that I need some new ones.

Where do you guy's go to get your vast amount of knowledge, humor, news etc. etc.

Facebook and Twitter.  I've hidden almost all my friends and now primarily read news outlets, local entertainment venues and local/national businesses.  On Twitter I follow any page or person with whom I have an interest.  Best source of every type of information available and always up to date.

I don't have an internet connection during the day, so I load this netbook with news and information via the Morning Coffee add-on for Firefox.  Here's a partial list:

Pixiq
Cycle-licious
Dallas Morning News Aviation Blog
Crooks and Liars
Dispatches from the Culture Wars
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Opinion page
Schneier on Security
Danger Room (Wired)
Amateur Photographer (UK)
The Far Left Side
Commute Orlando

There's more...lots more.  Sometimes I don't manage to read all of it in a day.

But another good way to collect information is via Google News Alerts.  Just set up the search terms and it sends links to your email address.

Here are my favorites that I like to hit during the day.

Ars Technica
Clean Technica
Wired Science Blog
Wired News
Technologizer
Engadget
North Korean Economy Watch
ROK Drop
Dilbert.com Blog
Free Gamer - Open Source Gaming
Grantland

I generally use Google Reader for following these sites and I also enjoy Google News

I have a man crush on Bruce Schneier, Ed. ;)

Most of the informative articles I read come to me by way of Google News, fwiw.

Anyone that fascinated with squid just has to be interesting.  I like squid too, but it's usually dressed up as calamari.

I'm a news junkie and go everywhere to find information. Here's a small list from my bookmarks:

Hot Air (right leaning)
Drudge
Gateway Pundit (very right leaning, but based out of STL-near hometown thing)
Democratic Underground (yep)
Daily Kos (yep)
Legal Insurrection (right leaning legal blog)
Volokh Conspiracy (recommend if you are interested in developments in the law)
Townhall (right leaning)
Newsbusters (right leaning media watchdog)
Media Matters (very left wing media watchdog)
Mediaite (fairly balanced media blog)
CNN
FNC

I have other sites I visit that are over the top on both political sides, but those are mainly for entertainment.
