Title: Downtown building purchased, tenants set to move out.
Post by: sgrizzle on May 23, 2011, 12:58:56 PM
Nothing confirmed, but I was given the impressions that a certain brick hugger had bought one of the buildings on near the fountain deck and the existing tenants will be moving out in the next few months.

While good news, I would hate to lose Impressions.

But what will go there, if not the old tenants?

I really hope impressions isn't going anywhere or at the least just moved to a new location.

Perhaps a new grandstand for the amazing new fountain?

I wish Moroney (sp) would let go of the Sinclair building so someone would finally utilize the old Ike's Chili spot. What a great place for street dining. You'd have front row seats to the dukes of hazzard show going on in the middle of Main St.

Not sure. I guess the new owners hate having all that income while they're remodeling.

That building is a dump.  Class C space at best.  Elevators are tiny and the floor to ceiling heights seem really short.  Surprising place for residential.  Wouldn't have been my first choice.

Seems odd to force out a street level restaurant on Main while remodeling/retrofitting the upper floors.  I would hate to see Impressions booted out -especially after Tom hung on through the tough times during the construction on Main St.

IMO, Impressions is the best prime rib sammich in town.  I also love his horseradish.

Maybe he can move back to the Brady and do an Impressions during the day and Pizza by Tom at night??

Was he the Pizza dot Tom guy?
I only made it there once during it's short life... Thought it was very good pie.

Impressions restaurant must move; owner recuperating from major surgery
5/26/2011 4:16:33 PM

Impressions restaurant recently received notice it is going to have to vacate the Oil Capital Building, 507 S. Main St., by the end of July.

The notice came while owner Tom Butcher was home recuperating from major surgery.

"I haven't told him about the building yet," said his wife, Susan Butcher, manager of Full Moon Cafe. "I'm going to have to go home and tell him today."

The building has been owned by Kanbar Properties. Susan said the notice to vacate indicated the building is being sold. She said she is sure Tom will be "actively seeking" a new location downtown, but she said no target date has been set for his return to work.

She said doctors found a tumor in his lower back in December, and he had surgery in Baltimore in mid March.

Tom Butcher has operated Impressions in its current location since 2002, but many Tulsans remember fondly when it was housed in a cedar building with a slanted roof, much like a mountain lodge, at 15th Street and Lewis Avenue for two decades, beginning in 1978.

Between the two Impressions sites, Butcher ran Pizza Dot Tom in the Brady District.

"He's doing better now; he's on the road to recovery," said Susan Butcher. "He wants all of his loyal customers to know how much he appreciates their support during this time."

Wow, and it usually only takes them 2 days to get out a story from here.

4 days... slackin.

We credit them.  You'd think they'd return the courtesy.

I guess if we knew we were a dead business plan walkin' we wouldn't give a poop either.

I spoke with someone from the TW this week.  They said unique visits are down but page views are up and ad clicks & sales are steady and trending up.  The vitriol and negativity on comments is also way down, they seem most excited about that.

Yes, but the Gretchen Wyler entity is still there. >:(

It baffles me what motivates a person to be so negative, rude, and hateful about every aspect of life, and the need to project that on a regular basis.  It would be sad if it wasn't so aggravating.

Someone over there doesn't understand math and logic. Of course the average reader's page views will increase if you get rid of the casual readers who are bringing down the average.

FYI - attempted to have lunch at Impressions today only to find a Closed sign on the door. Has anyone heard anything new on this if they are planning on reopening at another spot?

Man that sammich was sooo good.  You never really know you love something until it's gone.
