Title: The Sushi Place (Third Street, downtown)
Post by: TheTed on May 18, 2011, 12:28:55 PM
I noticed that long-closed deli on Third Street between Boulder and Cheyenne is now "The Sushi Place."

It even appeared to be open at 8pm on a Monday night. Can't find anything online about them. Anybody tried it?

Some quick-service/takeout places open evenings/weekends would be great. We have a real shortage of those. Even Dilly Deli closes fairly early (8pm on a weekend, really?) and closes for private parties all the time.

I agree...I want to see some of the CBD restaurants (plenty of choices in Brady and Dome) open evenings and weekends.
These are open after the office crowds leave:
Elote
Mods
Boulder Grill
Trula
Seven West
Baxters
Casa Laredo
Ti Amos
The Dog House
Summit Club
The Daily Grill
The Atlas Grill

These are not open:
Steak Finger House
Oklahoma Spud
Billy's On the Square
Long Palace
Taboulis
Courtyard Deli
Grand Selections
Greens
Coney Island
Boston Ave Grill
Impressions
Boston Ave Grill
Subway
Arby's
Elsa's
Quizons
Courtyard Deli
Crusty Croissant
Lou's Deli
Fortune Chef
Zorba

Atlas Grill is not open after 2pm or weekends, is it? Zorba's is open noon-6 on Saturdays, I think (or it was). But you can't have a good gyro with stale pitas, so that place is a no go.

I never see anyone at Ti Amo except on big BOK event nights. I expect that place to go under soon.

Regardless, there are plenty of sit-down places. But if you just want a quick meal, there's not much. That's mainly what I was referring to. Cheap, fast dine-in or take-out, without the hassle of a waiter.

Isn't Atlas Grill serving the hotel guests?

We've been going there since it was SoChey.  When SoChey first opened it was excellent then it went South in a big way.

Ti Amo's service is always friendly but we had so much trouble with food quality we skip it and go elsewhere.

I agree with you about the other places.  Be great to have more takeout places DT or quick cafes.

We took my Mom there for her birthday this year and it was pretty terrible.  They had done something to their tomato sauce that caused every dish to taste like chili.  Seriously, it is as though someone accidentally spilled a jar of cumin in the pot without noticing.

Lou's Deli is my favorite sandwich shop downtown.  I have never been for breakfast but hear it is halfway decent.

The hotel restaurant called The Bistro is open for dinner but the Atlas Grill is not.  I don't think the Atlas Grill is open on weekends either.

This is from Marriott's website:

The Bistro @ The Courtyard by Marriott
American
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Casual Dining

Atlas Grill
Deli
Open for breakfast and lunch
A Great Place for Breakfast and Lunch

Don't you think we all need Geiger counters when we go eat sushi? :'(

Sometimes even cheaper than the non-organic.  Go figure.

New additions to downtown are always welcome.   I will definitely try it.  This area does not seem to get a lot of foot traffic during the day - the Wright Building looks pretty empty.  It should get some benefit on nights with something at the BOK Center.

I'm a fan of Boulder Grill.  Stays open late, the food is good, and the patio on 7th is really nice.

Speaking of sushi, isn't In The Raw opening a location at the top floor of the Petroleum Club building at 6th & Boulder?  They would likely be open late.

I agree 100%. I really like the place, especially for Happy Hour.

The last I heard they were opening a location in the Philcade with banquet space available in the Petroleum Club building.  I believe the banquet space is somewhat dependent on the Petroleum Club moving to First Place Tower.

For a restaurant to be successful with hours expanded beyond lunch they must have catering &/or banquet space.

Spaghetti Warehouse is a crap-hole, but they have a large banquet space and as a result are successful.

Back to the Sushi Place, posted hours are

They open at 10 or 11am Monday-Saturday (sorry, forgot the specific time).

Close at 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
Close at 3pm Saturday.
Closed all day Sunday.

I wish them luck. I saw they've been putting their menus all over cars downtown.

Great, we can add this to the column of open after 5 places. What is the name of "The Sushi Place" on third besides "The Sushi Place on third".

That's the name on the awning, The Sushi Place.

My wife refused to eat there the other night simply because of the lame name. If that's all the effort and creativity they can put into the name, what kind of effort are they going to put into the sushi?

They have some interesting offerings on the menu:

Round Ones
Ones with Fish on top
Square Ones
Green Ones
White Ones

You also MUST try "The Soup"

They are my favorite hotel restaurant and it's kinda interesting how they aren't local, but not some national chain either.

Chalkboard is awesome! They did a grilled endive salad the other day that was about the best thing I've ever eaten!

What kind of creativity are you looking for?  The best sushi I have ever had came at a place whose name was merely the last name of the owner.  I like the plain and simple approach in nameing.  No question as to what they serve.

I will stop in this week and test it out.

According to Google Translate the name would be phonetically pronounced "Sushi pureisu".  (寿司プレイス)

So you could call it that if you wish.

my wife and i went last night and had a very good experience.  the cheesy maki roll was de-light-ful!  my wife had the 918 roll.  it was pretty good too.  they have soda and beer (3.2 only).  we got there around 7:30p.  there were around 10 to 12 customers including us.  the staff (owners?) were very pleasant and personable.  we definitely recommend trying the place.

Ate there for lunch last Thursday.
Food was good, disappointed that only bottled soda and green tea was offered. No fountain drinks or regular/sweet tea. Prices were a hair cheaper than Yokozuna. Very little in terms of ambiance. Looked like they wanted more but ran out of cash. It has the feel of an empty room with everything echoing and no music. Wouldn't take much to fix it up though.

Service was not good for our table or any other that I saw despite our party of 2 being only the 3rd lunch table sat. I don't expect great service for a while after a place opens though. Too many kinks seem to pop up.

If I had my choice, Yokozuna is my preference. Especially considering the only subtle price differences and lack of ambiance.
