I'm tired of being told that modern conservatism is a feature and not a bug.
Let's see...Jimmy Carter has been both the president of the United States and a Sunday school teacher. His faith permeates his life. He's a man of integrity who not only speaks the words, he lives the words.
Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. ...
Far too many in our political class see religious faith as only another check box, one that when trumpeted far and wide will bring in a few more votes.
So go ahead and call him a doosh, Guido. I think he can take it.

Come freakin on Ed. He called YOUR country a bunch of human rights violators. This country gives tons and tons of cash to help the needy all over the planet and to have that jack@ss call us inhumane on the land led by one of the biggest human rights violators is a damned joke. Sheesh Ed, I never would have thought you would take Kim Jong il's position. And stop using religion as a justification for a person's actions because it is a rarity to see this sort of response from you when religious principles are at play in an issue when that issue is inconsistent with your positions.

I think it's fairly clear that when you resort to saying "well, look who agrees with you", you're lacking a leg to stand on. Face it, we can be doing lots of good in the world and still be doing other people wrong. "The world" is not one monolithic entity.
RA, if you're not a self-identified neocon or Tea Partier, most Democrats I know would at worst think you have a different idea about what's good for the country than they do. There are always the nutter butters who hate everyone and everything that doesn't agree with them or somehow fit in with their pre-existing beliefs.
Personally, my quibble is with the people who are actively attempting to destroy government by intentionally running it into the ground. People who disagree with me about exactly what government should be doing but believe in the fundamental necessity and propriety of some government are people with whom I have a reasonable disagreement. People who want a return to the 50s are misguided, in my opinion. People who want to return to the crony capitalism of the gilded age need to be beaten about the head with a clue-by-four.
Guido, education and moronity are two completely separate things. Some of the most educated and talented people I know are utter morons. Refusing to use simple logic is one of the things that indicates that a person might be a moron. Think with your head, not your rage. Thx.
Edited to add: Another example of moron...me even bothering to respond to your post in the first place. That was moronic.

I have to admit I was somewhat surprised at your response to my suggestion that Reality having a liberal bias needed adjusting. I thought that with my reference to circuit components you would understand the comparison to setting the bias on a transistor (for example) with (often) resistors. If one of those components goes out of tolerance or is intentionally changed, the bias is changed. I didn't have anything earth shattering in mind, just a tweak to the right.

"Nate" wasn't here. ;) Now that Nate is here, he'll speak in the third person and reiterate what a fool you make yourself look like when your response to "you're a moron" is "how educated are you?" My posts speak well enough for themselves, thanks. If you want an actual answer to personal questions, stop being such an donkey.
I would think that with your JD, you'd be capable of understanding that a nation of 300 million people can be doing a lot of good for much of the world's population while at the same time attempting to starve another subset to death. Apparently education doesn't buy you that.
If you don't want to be called a moron, don't act like one. Seemingly constantly.
BTW, it's pretty easy to find out what field I work in. I've not exactly been shy about it here. ;)
I ain't defending Nate. Just commentary to him. I can't believe they don't teach sentence structure comprehension at TU. In fact, I know for a fact they do. Hmmmm.....in the tradition of recent hysterical radicals, maybe we should require a valid transcript from law school to demand answers.
And no, Red, you don't get to be a hysterical radical. Free radical is as much as you get! You are gonna take vitamin c, remember?

When you use the word "bash," you imply that his criticism is not factual. If you want to make the argument that nobody should criticize the United States, its government, or its policies, that's fine. Personally, I'm not comfortable with that. Given your constant disagreement with many of our government's policies, I somehow doubt that's what you intend to say.

So you agree with that moronic claim that this country is committing human rights violations. Good to know. Why aren't you screaming for Obama's impeachment and Hillary's removal as SoS. After all, its their foreign policy towards the world's worst dictator you are upset with. You know, the guy who's country sank a South Korean ship last year killing many sailors. No human rights violations at all there I suppose.
According to Jimmy Carter, the US, South Korea and other nations that refuse to give North Korea food due to political and military differences are committing human rights violations? Not a blockade mind you, but not giving food to North Korea.
Nevermind NK is selling nuclear and ICBM tech to Iran, a nation on the US State department's list of nations that support state sponsored terrorism. Nevermind NKs unprovoked attack on SK by shelling Yeonpyeong island and killing SK citizens. Besides, other nations are quite capable and frankly better equipped aiding North Korea with food such as China and Russia.
I disagree it's a human rights violation to not give aid to North Korea. NK can receive free food from elsewhere and in the meantime show it is serious with negotiations by stop exporting technology that provides a known terrorist regime in Iran the ability to build ICBMS with nuclear capabilities and discontinue threatening SK with war.

I thought you were withholding comment because you wanted to do us a favor.
Serendipity is a wonderful thing. I came across this quote early this morning:
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children." - Dwight D. Eisenhower
Yeah, Eisenhower, what a doosh. Feeding people and acting on Christian belief is so obviously a loser's tactic.
Ed, the problem is that he came along at a time before the Republican party had been co-opted - nay, hijacked - by the RWRE. As was Gerald Ford - same kind of guy.
You can see the results of that hijacking all around you. The class warfare - rich upon poor. The unprecedented and unconscionable transfer of wealth - poor to rich. The Imperialistic Voyeurism of America in the form of unending war AS economic policy. The sellout of the legislative branch of government to big business, particularly big oil and defense (and sometimes both at the same time! As in Halliburton's no bid money grab in Iraq).
Eisenhower warned us. We didn't listen to him. Rather, we listened to the shrill harpies of the nattering nabobs of negativity - the Murdochians amongst us.
How you liking it now??
Think we will ever figure it out? (One small symptom that we are learning would be - quit electing Inhofe type characters.)
Jimmy Carter's October Surprise Doubts
Special Report: Ex-President Jimmy Carter tells an interviewer that he isn't sure what to believe about the longstanding suspicions that Republicans went behind his back in 1980 to stop him from freeing 52 American hostages in Iran, a failure that contributed to his political demise. But Robert Parry reports that there is a wealth of historical evidence.
http://consortiumnews.com/2011/05/12/jimmy-carters-october-surprise-doubts/
" If Carter had freed the hostages and won a second term, the United States might have continued on a path toward alternative energy, the federal deficit would not have soared as it did under Reagan, and deregulation of corporations would not have opened the environment and the financial sector to such dangers." My favorite part of the article! 8)
He was toast without the hostage crisis.
Perhaps....the article focuses more on the forces of evil within our government and the bad outcomes from policy decisions that precipitated during the early 80's. :(
