Title: In case you didn't know
Post by: we vs us on April 04, 2011, 10:03:51 AM
Obama's running for re-election in 2012.

Takeway:  lasting change doesn't come "quickly or easily."  (http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/obama-on-re-elect-lasting-change-doesnt-come-quickly-or-easily.php?ref=fpa)

Which, while absolutely true, is a little light on the inspiration.

On the Obama side of the equation for 2012, I will be very interested to see to what degree his 2008 coalition will come out for him . . . specifically the middle of the road independents and the younger voters.  The centrist indies will almost certainly be confronted by a GOP that is further (and possibly far further) right than they've been in a long time, regardless of how gentle the nominee seems on the TV (ahem, Pawlenty), thought the GOP has been very successful in painting Obama as a SUPERBIGNASTYGOVERNMENT socialist/liberal.  With indies, that's going to be the tension in 2012.

The kids will have had 4 years of unemployment and/or reduced circumstances (the recession is hitting them particularly hard) and so it will be very interesting to see how they interpret the crazy-slow recovery of the last 4 years.  Will they see Obama as selling out to the monied interests or will they see a little more nuance and give him some time?

I found it a little strange that he announced his re-election through proxy rather than appealing to his voters in his own words.

That is the reason that Obama will be re-elected.

I don't see any scenario that the republican party nominates anyone near the center. The primary is going to be every candidate proudly screaming how far right they are. It is the only way to win a national republican primary in 2012.

I know. . .what up with that?  The Donald has lost his mind.  I caught him in a clip from O'Riley saying that we should have stayed in Iraq and taken all of the oil.

His hair just gets more disturbing the older he gets.

The LA Times has an interesting article this morning titled "Why Hillary Must Run in 2012."

While he's polling at 42% approval, she's at the top of her game with 66%.

I'm not sure I'm buying her "I'm out" line.

Genral Gadahafi has just pledged his support to President Obama in the 2012 campaign.

"We have been hurt more morally (than) physically because of what had happened against us in both deeds and words by you," he wrote. "Despite all this you will always remain our son whatever happened. We still pray that you continue to be president of the U.S.A. We Endeavour and hope that you will gain victory in the new election campaigne."

That's interesting, because at one point Richard Pryor and Saddam Hussein switched places in the late 80s/early 90s.

Separated at birth?  Too many years of inbreeding in the Gadaffi family

Conan,
You got the picture of the wrong end!  (Of either one!)
