Anonymous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(group)), the international hacker collective has declared war on Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church. The Anonymous declaration reads in part: (http://anonnews.org/?p=press&a=item&i=449)
Quote"Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man - except for yourselves - has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history. . . .
ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.
Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines.
The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you."
Westboro's response? "Bring it!" (http://www.examiner.com/technology-in-national/westboro-baptist-church-challenges-hacker-group-to-bring-it-on)
I'm REALLY not a fan of vigilantism but . . . well, this is just gonna be exceptionally good.
I read about this on a lefty website today. I will be interested in watching this play out.

Too bad we can't simply use a 2nd Amendment solution on these asshats.

They faked a threat against themselves for attention, that's just amazingly sad. Worst attention whores I know of.
But maybe, just maybe, they get a wrist slap from the hackers for good measure.

It was a ruse to collect IP addreses and sue anyone who responded to their taunts. While that may not be a crime, forgery and interstate transmission of threats certainly would be.
It's hard to believe that of all the cybercrimes police units so fashionably set up all over the country, that not one of them has seriously pursued the target most likely to get them almost universal favorable publicity.
Can't let a Westboro thread go without one of these:

According to wiki, someone has actually tapped that as she has 11 kids. Yuck.
Okay. Now drink this.

I wonder what kind of protests we'll see when Fred Phelps kicks the bucket? Can't be that many more years. Will a mixed group of gays, military families, etc. be there with signs to celebrate?

We should probably consider turning him over to a group of gay necrophiliacs upon his passing.
Probably more than that.
The hacking collective known as Anonymous renewed their war on the Westboro Baptist Church today. After the haters from the infamous church posted their intentions to picket the funerals of the twenty children killed in the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Anonymous responded by re-posting the personal and professional information for members of the church on the Internet.
http://www.inquisitr.com/440545/anonymous-hacks-the-westboro-baptist-church-posts-all-their-personal-information/
And again:
After the tragic suicide of Reddit co-founder and Internet activist Aaron Swartz, hacktivist group Anonymous vowed to derail picketing efforts by the hate-mongering members of the Westboro Baptist Church, who threatened to protest Swartz's funeral on Tuesday. When members of Anonymous and supporters showed up to block the WBC's picket line, the quasi-religious group was nowhere to be seen.

Well, folks, this is what seems to work against inbred lawyer cults.
I really want a Guy Fawkes mask! Would go well with my "axe killer" costume I wear on Halloween!!

Just another one of the things that they do that makes me think they are the bees knees (/sarcasm). I went to the Kansas City showing of Red State (Kevin Smiths movie "loosely" based on a Westboro type group). They showed up to protest, and Kevin had actually invited them to come to the showing. They requested about 20 tickets and sat in the balcony. They had their kids (as young as 7) there... the group was about 70/30 kids/teens to adults for a Kevin Smith movie. I couldn't believe it.

Kevin told that story in one of his movies that he does when he does q and a sessions at colleges. It was hilarious how it all came about.

yeah, I was there and everything about it was just uncomfortable. The same people that were yelling all types of crazy stuff outside the theater were now approximately 25 feet from me, if I only had a tranquilizer gun. I stayed for a portion of the Q&A but got bored because it was just a bunch of "can you sign this" type stuff and I still had to drive back to Tulsa. Little did I know that 5 minutes after I walked out the door, two former members/family members of Westboro came up on stage.
