Title: Coburn and Schumer to sit together for the State of the Union address
Post by: Hoss on January 16, 2011, 02:48:25 PM
I'm just as critical of Coburn as any of the Democrat or even some Republicans, but I will give kudos here.  I'm sure he faces excoriation from many in his own party, as I'm sure Schumer does.

Both deserve credit.  I hope this doesn't become an unfulfilled promise.  I think it's high time that children can look at members of Congress as role models, and not sniping children, as it has been for quite some time now.

I know, it's a HuffPo article, but it was also stated on "Meet the Press" by both Senators.

Mr. Coburn is good guy.  He hasn't been very dishonest with the voters (unlike you know who!) and has done a very decent job and seems to be an honorable man.  And I have looked at what he does as much as I do the other, much less talented Senator from Oklahoma.

If it wouldn't be such a loss to the state, I could probably stand to have him as President.  Especially given the sorry-a$$ crop of losers out there for the last several elections - and apparently the next several.

We have heard other stories about Coburn defending Pelosi in town halls here, etc etc.  Obviously the guy is what a Republican should really be.

He has talked about her personally.  He doesn't agree with a lot of her politics, but can be civil.  Unlike so many...

I strongly disagree with Coburn's politics, but his actions in the last year or two have begun to make me think that perhaps he's not the terrible person he plays on TV. I still wouldn't vote for the guy, but at least I have some respect for him now.

Defending Rep. Pelosi defines what a Republican really should be?  Really?

So would defending a Republican colleague define a "good" Democrat as well?

No, defending the facts against baseless smears is one of the hallmarks of a good Senator.

Defending against smears because they are in a specific position? Yes .  Much like from now on any Democrat presidential candidate before the primary that is in the lead is the most "liberal ever"  You forget a large majority of the Republican complaints against Democrats involve them being overweight, not liking their make up, or had cosmetic surgery.

If you go to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill, make sure you ask for a side order of intolerance.

Never been there.  First because it's in the casino, and there is no way to eat there without it tasting like the inside of an ashtray.  Second, ....well, it don't matter, cause first is the limiting factor.

Inhofe change his spots?  Heck no.

QuoteOklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe says he won't be one of the Republicans choosing to sit next to those on the opposite side of the aisle for tonight's State of the Union Address.

The move is an effort led by Democratic Senator Mark Udall of Colorado to show unity following the shootings in Tucson, Arizona earlier this month that killed six people and critically wounded Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords.

But, on a radio show Tuesday morning, Inhofe said the move is a mistake by Republicans.

"It's ingenious for Democrats to try to intermingle, get the Republicans and Democrats together," Inhofe said. "Because when they stand and cheer for some of the liberal doctrines the President's going to come out with, it's obvious to the people in America that only the Democrats are cheering and the Republicans are not. But, moving them all in there together, you won't be able to distinguish the Republicans from Democrats."

Inhofe says he has received an invitation to sit next to a couple of Democrats. Fellow Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn says he plans to sit next to New York Democrat Chuck Schumer.

Tonight's State of the Union Address can be seen on NewsChannel 8 beginning at 8 p.m. followed by the Republican Response from Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan.

Perfect compare and contrast opportunity.  Coburn - class act.   Then there is Inhofe.

I am sure that if the question was posed to Inhofe, he would say, yes, some people DO deserve better health care opportunities than others.

Oh, wait...the question WAS posed.  And he DID say that!!

Awesome:

Inhofe insists seating arrangement was not a date

QuoteWASHINGTON - Try as he did to avoid all the bipartisanship breaking out at the State of the Union address, U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe confirmed Wednesday he ended up sitting next to a Democrat.

But the Oklahoma Republican insisted it was not a date.

"I always sit in the same place,'' Inhofe said.

"I actually ended up sitting next to Chris Coons, the new Democrat senator from Delaware, by accident. It wasn't by design. It wasn't date night for me.''

He also stood by his opposition to the efforts by others to cross the political aisle and have Republicans and Democrats break with tradition and sit together.

"I didn't think mingling where everyone sits was a good idea,'' Inhofe said.

"I prefer having the Democrats sit on one side and the Republicans on the other so that the American people at home can look and see what each party is supporting and applauding.''

He did, however, rub his thigh when Coons bought him a hotdog and a coke at intermission.
