This is the single best thing I've heard in a long time regarding the CVB. The Chamber has been siphoning off operating capital from the Visit Tulsa budget since they've been in charge of it, and the CVB has suffered mightily. They're down in staff almost by 2/3s, and from a sales pace standpoint, they're looking awful for 2011 and beyond. It's tragic because, for the most part, the larger meetings want to deal with the City first and have them do all the local negotiating and/or organization, so we in the hotels suffer directly when their pace is down.
I am Tulsa. (Insert, small, meaningless icon here.)
And I am very, very happy.
Finally starting to understand my disdain for "The Chamber"?

Was thinking about that earlier, and yes, I get it. I guess, though, that I still feel that the chamber does certain things well, and still plays a crucial role for business in town. It isn't the best solution for everything, though, and that's absolutely true here.
I guess I work with the chamber and chamber minions in a lot of different capacities and see the varying value of their services.
I would so love that job. It would be great to really sell Tulsa and bring visitors to town.
