Title: Welcome to Armistice Day
Post by: Ed W on November 11, 2010, 04:51:52 AM
It ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and it was supposed to be the "war to end all wars."  Aren't they all?

I realized that we are on the verge of losing all of our WWII veterans.  I can only imagine getting dropped off on a beach with your only direction to go at the people shooting at you.

I still have a difficult time comprehending losing thousands or tens of thousands of lives in a single battle.

We had 5 million WWII vets.  Now down to about 250,000 (less every day).

The last living American WWI vet issued a statement yesterday on final German reparations.  I was not sure if we still had a WWI vet living or not:

The WW2 memorial just opened in 2004.  I believe the only WW2 memorial in the United States used to be in Kansas City until that opened.  I may be wrong on that.
