Title: New tea party plank

"A Tea Party candidate in Delaware has a new plank in her platform, a plan to end the scourge of masturbation..."

I thought they wanted less government intrusion into our lives.

Talk amongst yourselves.  I gotta go to work.

Christine O'Donnell is actually pretty cute.  'Scuse me I've got to run to the bathroom for about 10 minutes.

"I can see the bumper stickers now: 'I masturbate, and I vote!'"

The other comments are just as hillarious:

To be fair, masturbation is not a right granted in the constitution.

Oh, and here's HuffPo's account of her masturbation comments, apparently those were from the mid 1990's when she appeared on MTV's "Sex In The 90's".

"The Delaware Republican, who is challenging Rep. Mike Castle in the state's Senate primary and has earned the financial backing of a portion of the Tea Party movement, made an appearance in the MTV series "Sex In The 90s." Entitled "The Safest Sex Of All," the episode was ostensibly geared towards understanding the importance of abstinence. But O'Donnell's guidance went a bit further. Masturbation, she argued, is not a moral substitute for sex. "The Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. So you can't masturbate without lust."

I've read nowhere she thinks government should get involved in the issue and she also is not a Tea Partier but has recieved the endorsement of the Tea Party in Delaware.  Interesting how facts get distorted in campaigns.

Oh, and I do think she's a whackjob, a cute one, but still a whackjob.

Turns out she has a problem with finances.  She'd fit right in up in D.C. then.

O'Donnell experienced financial difficulties before, during, and after her 2008 campaign.[5] She was unable to pay the mortgage for her Wilmington house and the mortgage company gained a judgment against her for $90,000; the house was due to be sold at a sheriff's auction in August 2008 when she sold it the month prior to her campaign's legal counsel.[5] In 2009, she moved to a townhouse elsewhere in Delaware, where she pays half the rent with campaign contributions because it doubles as her campaign headquarters for her 2010 senate run.[5] Her 2008 campaign ended with $23,000 in debt, and between 2007 and 2009 the Federal Election Commission cited her eight times for failing to supply contributions reports on time.[5] As of 2010, she owes payments to staffers, consultants, and volunteers from the 2008 campaign.[5][21] In 2010, the Internal Revenue Service placed a lien on her for over $11,000 in taxes owed for 2005.[5] O'Donnell noted that the IRS agent handling the matter claimed the agency's action has been inappropriate.[5] She listed herself as self-employed and said she was doing "odd jobs" to make ends meet.[5]"

"When a report from The News Journal in March 2010 detailed her fiscal difficulties, she attributed the problems to misunderstandings and errors, and said, "I think the fact that I have struggled financially is what makes me so sympathetic."[5][29][30] Nevertheless, her financial problems became a focal point of establishment Republican attacks against her.[31]"

We can thank the tea baggers for the continuing purge within the Republican party, and the likely election of a Democrat to one of Delaware's senatorial offices.

What happens when the voters turn their backs on tea bagger backed candidates in the general election?

Dick Thornburg, before he went over to the dark side as Regan's AG.  He was a tough prosecutor in Allegheny County and ran for governor as a reformer.

O'Donnell's primary win in Delaware seems to be a tipping point of sorts within the GOP.  For whatever reason, the internal warfare has gone public, and there's all sorts of interesting sniping going on in the news/talk world between the power structure and the Tea Partiers.

All of which is a neatly wrapped gift for the otherwise-struggling Dems.

Gift yes, but not strong enough to grant them advantage.

As anticipated, members of the "old establishment" GOP are being given walking papers.  The new Republican candidates seem to be falling in line with Tea Party agendas and associating themselves with the movement.  These candidates are also picking up a significant independent following.  I think we are seeing the birth of a new Republican party with a single unified mantra of "Smaller Government."

IMO, it represents Republicans shifting to more Libertarian philosophy.  At least I am hopeful that this is where things are going.  The GOP needs to tread lightly.

Dims need to lose the smug attitude. They've made every attempt to marginalize this movement by calling them racist, gun-toting, bible-thumping nut cases.

I really was taken with the headline this morning that O'Donnell's win would assure Democrat victory in Delaware and "end" the GOP dream of re-taking the Senate.

Pretty arrogant stuff. Americans are tired of arrogance and the entitlement mentality the ruling class has. Castle was a great example of this. The Dims aren't immune from this growing sentiment.

I seem to remember during the last couple of elections the Democrats campaigned firmly against some Bush guy rather than even addressing many of the issues.  I may be mistaken.  :o

I'll acknowledge that the Dems have their own problems, but they have nothing to do with last night's primary results.  This is all about about who owns the GOP.  Over and over again, the base of the Republican party keeps voting against their own power structure.  It's literally like the political version of the Alien chest burster.

Karl Rove, (http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/karl-rove-dukes-it-out-with-hannity-there-are-a-lot-of-nutty-things-odonnells-been-saying.php) btw, was the guy who said that O'Donnell's election lost the GOP a chance to retake the Senate.  Most of the rest of the criticism today has flowed from there.

Rove needs to get over himself as well as the rest of the dinosaurs in the GOP.  They had a chance from 1994 to 2006 to show us what great stewards they could be of the assets they were entrusted with.  They failed.  They created an even bigger, money-hungry government while claiming to espouse smaller government and fiscal responsibility.  Sen. Scott Brown winning Sen. Kennedy's seat is all one needs in knowing there are no "sacred" seats in traditional GOP or Dem states.

Original reports said the NRSC would not support O'Donnell, that's been proven false as they've already dumped $42K into her campaign.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is behind O'Donnell all the way, said its chairman, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), who added that the committee has already given her campaign a check for $42,000.

"Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee - and I personally as the committee's chairman - strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O'Donnell in Delaware."

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the House's No. 3-ranking Republican:

"I categorically reject that Christine O'Donnell cannot win in Delaware. This is a whole new world, we elected a Republican member of the Senate from Massachusetts."

I seriously think you got your JD from the Fox News School of Intermediate Rhetoric.

I'm under no obligation, in a thread about the tea party, to find any sort of equivalence whatsoever between O'Donnell and dude-man from South Carolina.  And we can have an intellectually honest conversation about O'Donnell while not mentioning dude-man from South Carolina.  It doesn't make me a hypocrite, and it doesn't make what's been said about her suddenly null and void.  All it does is point out your inability to make arguments based on logic, rather than guilt by association.
