Title: Phat Philly's

will be no longer........

That's sad. They always seemed to be super crowded with the after-bar crowd at 2am.

The downtown/midtown late-night dining options are already limited enough. Not counting drive-thru chains, all of downtown/midtown has for late-night (after midnight) food:

Joe Momma's (weekends only)
Denny's/Village Inn or something

Am I forgetting anything? Seems awfully sparse given the amount of drinking establishments downtown and midtown.

There is the hot dog cart at 18th & Boston that serves past 2 am.  I'm surprised there aren't more places near TU, especially that Coney Islander (same goes for the one on Brookside).

Delicious phillies...    The only complaint I ever had was the place was too small.

Another missed opportunity by me.

Did they have authentic rolls or were they just close enough?  A few months ago I ordered some genuine Amoroso Hoagie/Cheese Steak rolls.  They arrived the next day Fed-Ex.  About $48/doz including shipping and handling.  OK for a splurge.  I made hoagies.

Andddddddddddddddddd....any word on why closing? I went at lunch quite a bit, they couldn't have had that much overhead in that location and were always busy...

I better get there this weekend. I love how you could be drinking a beer in there at 3am as some law enforcement types stroll in to pick up a big order of food and nobody seems to care.

From the Tulsa Food Blog..

Rumor has it that they don't want to pay the ballpark tax within the IDL. I haven't gotten confirmation on that though. When I asked if they might be opening up a new restaurant elsewhere the answer was pretty matter of factly a "no". I also heard a rumor that Phat Philly's will be able to be found on a certain hot dog truck around town after they close, but again, I have not been able to confirm that, nor have I heard what "hot dog truck" these could be found on. Sounds like the makings of a great Tulsa urban legend to me. :) In 30 year, many of us will be passing along the legend of the great Phat Philly to our grandchildren.

Hard for me to get too excited. I thought the USA Philly over off 51st and Wheeling (now at 51st & Memorial) was much better. It was started by a guy actually from Philadelphia with a big city attitude as well.

Phat's was okay, and the sandwiches were huge, but took to long to get your food imo and ...just okay. Still, I'm sorry to see them go.

I thought Phat Philly's was good, but when everything else in town is closed, you don't have to be that good, just better than McDonald's/Taco Bell, etc.

I don't think I've ever been there during their daytime hours, just the midnight-4am hours on weekends.

One of those big snowstorms last year, Joe Momma's had closed really early. McNellie's was closing early and was not serving food. Pretty much everything was closed or closing reallly early.

Phat Philly's still opened up at midnight, at a time when every other downtown business was looking for an excuse to close early. That won Phat Philly's tons of goodwill from me.

Hopefully at some point soon there will be enough downtown residential to support businesses actually being open when it snows.

An aside, but Steak Stuffers is one of those closed on Sunday joints, right? I'll never understand the wisdom of being closed one of the two days when most working folks are off work.

I would think they should have business on the weekend but maybe most of their trade is from local workers on lunch break.

The two times I managed to catch them open, it tasted like I paid $7 for Steak-Umms

B.S. Their ballpark tax was 93 cents per day. $325 a year. I guarantee they made that back on game days alone.

I tried to go once.  I gave up after waiting 12 minutes to order and went down to Arby's.  How long could it possibly take to throw a philly together?  2-3 minutes?  There was only one person in front of me in the line.  It seemed like a poorly run operation to me.  my .02

It takes almost exactly the amount of time it takes to drive from my house to Phat Philly's, actually. That would be about 6-7 minutes. Presuming, of course, that they start on it immediately. If they're busy, I have time to go by the ATM, which adds 3-5 minutes.

Their flyer said "still rolling them phat after 5 years".  Thought it was odd to say you were "still" when a few hours later you wouldn't be any more.

The old music store?  There used to be a building that came right up to the corner there but it was torn down last year.  It was in really bad shape.  Both the building and lot have been vacant ever since, good to see something happening there.  The abandoned buildings across the street have been renovated and one of the spaces is a catering business, the other is for lease.

Thought I'd walk over and give them a try.
Let's hope they figure something out because I think they just edged out my Burger King experience from 11 years ago for SLOW.
Weird thing:  not sure where the bottleneck(s) were.   My first guess is the POS/register..  tons of folks waiting to order their dogs, but not many people waiting once ordered.   At least 10 folks gave up and left while I was there.

Pretty much anything you'd get to eat at 4am would be unhealthy, unless you get a salad at McDonald's or something. And I don't think many people have a hankering for a salad to soak up the alcohol.

QuoteTULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa entrepreneur is giving his business some permanent roots.

Josh Lynch owns "The Dog House."  He has almost a dozen carts in Tulsa including one at the BOK Center.  But he didn't have a real place to call home until now.

Lynch has set up shop at 11th and Detroit and says this all started with a gift.

"My dad gave me my first hot dog cart. I didn't choose it; it chose me," said Josh Lynch.

"The Dog House" offers some very interesting choices for toppings including cream cheese and peanut butter.

Lynch says he likes to get crazy with his ingredients.

Blue Dome philly isn't even close to being the same thing.  They have the woman that worked at the old place and her partner seems to be making the phillies instead of the guys that knew what they were doing.  I was really let down.
