I also hear they are remaking Ahnold's "Commando". Jeez

Yeah... Hollywood is a drag.

I prefer the newer TV shows.
"Reality Based"

heard about one coming out to be called the "Oil Fields of Iraq" maybe why it was given preference over the cult pilot "The Smack Fields of Afghanistan".

Don't forget Yogi Bear is due out shortly.

Here is a site from 2008, that has hit some of the remakes already out or about to be out.

These twenty basic plots are from the Tennessee Screenwriting Association.  I once saw a list of similar plot ideas with the movies based on them, but I wasn't able to find it again.  Obviously, there's a lot of cross over.  'Buddy movies', for instance, would have to include 48 Hours, The Lord of the Rings, and even Casablanca.  Oddly, the buddy plot isn't included here.

If you want to see the definitions of each category, follow the link:

1. QUEST - Lord of the Rings, The Maltese Falcon, She, Indiana Jones series.

2. ADVENTURE - The Treasure of Sierra Madre, Beau Geste, Platoon, The Alamo.

3. PURSUIT - North by Northwest, Cannonball Run, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

4. RESCUE - The Sting

5. ESCAPE - The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Miserables, Cool Hand Luke.

6. REVENGE - Tombstone, The Count of Monte Cristo, Silence of the Lambs.

7. THE RIDDLE - Citizen Kane.

9. UNDERDOG - The Magnificent Seven, Yojimbo, A Fistful of Dollars, 300.

10. TEMPTATION - The Mephisto Waltz

11. METAMORPHOSIS - Superman, Spartacus.

13. MATURATION - Star Wars.

14. LOVE - The Princess Bride.

15. FORBIDDEN LOVE - Camelot

16. SACRIFICE - The Scarlet Pimpernel, A Tale of Two Cities.

This thread is fun.

Guido post a link to an op-ed portion of the NY Times, that as far as I can tell, has nada to do with Hollywood and it spirals into something worth reading.

Maybe someone can explain the "political" relationship to Hollywood's remake fever to me.

I have three theories on this.

1 - We sometimes don't pay attention to the links he provides.

2 - The link between the deficit/recesion is, it  has caused Hollywood to spend money on projects that were sucessful in the past, and enough time has gone by that the remakes they are making may appeal to an audience that has never seen the originals, wether they are remakes of theatrical releases or adaptions of TV shows/cartoons/comic book series. Also they can put their own political slant/spin on the projects.

3 - The other therory that I have is that Hollywood is adapting things from the past and creating a new escapeism that the viewing public needs to take their minds off of reality and by remaking/rebooting/retooling movies and TV from the past they are going with known formulas.

Just my $.02

I meant to post a link to the "Arthur" remake. I guess I got it wrong.

Here is the correct link:

I saw this a few weeks ago and could not believe it either. What is the all of the sudden love fest with Russell Brand ? The guy to me is not funny, and this coming from a guy who gets British humor.
What next Hollywood another M*A*S*H ? They have truly ran out of creative writers.

How about Magnum P.I., The Warriors, Escape From New York, They Live, The Fast and The Furious 5, an "10"?
